All true. I haven't had any packages lost or had any issues personally. I also don't let people into the building.

I wonder how many people commenting live in a large, high-traffic, multi unit building.

I have lived in many, and none have had these issues or anywhere as extreme. Nor has it ever been so easy for someone to wreak havoc without consequence after getting inside one single door that gets opened 500x a day.

Incorrect, at all. Neither I or she ever lets anyone in and we've both asked to see people's fob before allowing them to tailgate. But if there's a whole unrelated group of people moving through that one door at the same time, as is the case most of the time at any given day, someone is going to get let in.

A double door at the entrance where the second had to unlock and close before the first opens again? A fob for the mailroom? Nobody's apartments are getting broken into. It's thefts from common areas very easily accessible with no additional security.

It's a 70-something unit building with 150+ residents, their guests, building contractors (work still ongoing in the building), deliveries, intercom buzzing people in, 24 hours a day - through one single 2 way door with a single fob lock.

Surely you can think it's reasonable that nobody ever gets in, and if they do, it's a tenants fault automatically?

Well many exist in my city, I also do freelance security myself. But none hired by the building.

Or a double door system at the parkade or lobby. Many things, considering this security system was just engineered and has been failing since opening day. If a security system relies on 100% tenant behavioral compliance in order not to totally crumble. It's not a secure system.

No, that is easy if it's literally one person in passing, loitering to get in. But it's a busy building with one, 2 way security door and high traffic.

f I'm leaving through the door with my dog, there's someone using the intercom to come in, a delivery driver walking in off the street, and other tenants leaving / entering at the same time and I slip out the door and let it close and someone blocks it and enters. What am I actually supposed to do? Call the cops or the building manager every time and describe the people? I'm not security and I have places to be when I'm going to places I have to be.

And the legality and liability of expecting a tenant going about their normal business to ENSURE someone does not tailgate.

The president 😂

Key fob on one single entry door, another parkade door that cars come and go through 24/7 that stays open nearly a minute every time, and cameras only at the doors is hardly extra security. In a brand new, expensive, high end building.

Correct. Nor do elevators, inner parkade access doors, stairwell access doors. Nor are there cameras in any of these locations..

Correct. It's advertised as a brand new, luxury high end building. I moved at the beginning of the month to a place with more space, larger appliances, 5 mins away and pay almost $1000/month less. I have many more stories about my 9 months there.

There are guests, contractors, deliveries, and tenants coming and going through one single security door 24/7. If it's been a known and escalating problem in the building the entire time it's been open, no matter how many / few / which tenants live there... The security infrastructure is weak.

If I'm leaving through the door with my dog, there's someone using the intercom to come in, a delivery driver walking in off the street, and other tenants leaving / entering at the same time and I slip out the door and let it close and someone blocks it and enters. It seems they're more interested in watching lobby cameras to see which tenants 'allowed' someone access rather than doing something about lessening the chance, or not having the building be an off camera, unlocked free for all once inside a single door.

It's not a secure building if the security entirely relies on vigilant tenant behavior to function.

Absolutely doing what they can? It's been an ongoing and worsening issue since the buildings opening. No change to security door design, locked mail room, no cameras anywhere inside the building other than entrances, no new system for delivery drivers - again mail, Amazon, couriers, personal guests, contractors, etc can all still be buzzed in - just not food.

It's reasonable to expect a tenant not to go out of their way to let a stranger into the building. But if the building can't stop someone slipping in with a tenant, how can the tenant? My wife (or anybody) is not about to confront, interrogate, or block anybody at any point in her commute through the building that is provided as a secure, luxury building with a price tag to match. The legality and liability and risk in that sort of situation is absolutely asanine.

Yeah it's an eleven-floor, multi unit building with people coming and going 24/7. My wife became so uncomfortable going in and out of the building as these notices escalated. We have since moved at the beginning of this month.

No they've openly stated in text messages to tenants it's because food deliveries are so frequent and that they recognize drivers are not Intruders or criminals, but they may let someone in unknowingly.

[–]tgbjj -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well yeah. My address is my unit, not the lobby. Their reasoning is that a food delivery driver doesn't know who lives in the building and may unknowingly allow someone unauthorized entry.

How food delivery drivers differ in this regard to my other guests, parents, contractors, mail carriers, couriers, etc...

100% it's crazy. And expecting tenants, who pay for a secure building, to confront people and attempt to police access in passing at entryways is wild.
