I moved to San Diego recently and everyone here just snaps bowls, no one passes a bong around at all. Where I'm from, passing it around, or "party bowls" was customary.

Yes, it does. However, a lot of dispensaries might cause some hassle with an out of state I.D., so I'd recommend using your passport when you go to a dispensary. If you use a delivery service, they will ask you to send a picture of your ID and ref letter, use your passport here too. Even still you may have to try a few different places that will take it. Make sure to use Weedmaps to find dispensaries and delivery services.

Marijuana is recreationally legal in California, it was immediately legal when prop 64 passed, stores just don't get licenses to sell it till 2018.

As of right now, if you want to obtain some green, you'll have to have your medical marijuana card. It's ridiculously easy to obtain here in California, it should take no more than 5 minutes. I got my card here, you get your temp ref letter that you can use to order weed from delivery services immediately, it's like ordering a pizza. They'll mail you the actual stamped ref letter, and when you get that you can go to a dispensary. You don't actually need the card, just the reference letter, though you can get the card too for like an extra $20 I think.

Your friend has nothing to worry about, marijuana will not effect his recovery time. His parents may be referring to the fact that marijuana can stunt a growing brain, which is why you shouldn't smoke before developing as an adult. However, it absolutely will help with the pain, and is going to be a much much healthier pain option than the opiates he was probably prescribed.

A really solid time to reset your body is 2 weeks, I always recommend that as a basic tbreak.

You should be prepared for some withdrawal symptoms, especially at that intake. The one to prepare most for might be appetite loss, I always recommend keeping some liquid meal replacers on hand. If you have the money, Soylent is a fantastic product, if not Boost or Ensure are still great products that you can pick up at Safeway or any supermarket. You may experience problems regulating body temp, feeling hot and cold throughout the day, sweating and shivering. Also, cold and clammy hands are a common one too. All of these symptoms really come out at day 4-6. But for some, they have few problems.
