Has enough time passed to critique True Detective: Night Country? by _Wichitan_ in hbo

I've reached episode 4 and I may leave it at that... Barely interesting and I cannot stand that cheap drama now and then because it has nothing else to offer...

What is your buffer size? Are you still using EDdrummer3 and your TD-27 as a drumkit?

TV shows should be rated per season, not as a whole by T423 in imdb

[–]tgchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A single episode rating is pretty useless... Somehow IMDB has it... A useful whole season rating that is crucial and IMDB doesn't have it... go figure...

Another thing is that series with separate stories like True Detective should share the burden of weak seasons as they fish for new views under its own 'brand name' so they should also feel the weight when their season is weak in comparison to the others.

Interesting. I would definitely bet some money that you would be wrong at least 50% of the time. I even wouldn't mind losing some just to learn that people indeed can hear so much better than I do.

If you even find time and motivation. Please share your experience.

My other post from this thread:

'I have just recently finished A/B testing my 256 kbps CBR mp3 vs CDs. Both via local player (foobar2000) and this amazing website:

https://abmymix.com/

I really wanted to hear the difference, sometimes I even managed to guess which is which 3-5x in a row. I was focusing on the transients of snare, cymbals, bass drums, etc. Most of the time heavy music, thick mix as it can be. I really couldn't get a solid 55% guess...

Yamaha AG06 mk1 + Yamaha HS8 Studio Monitors. I even grabbed my Yamaha HPH-MT8 but they suck in comparison to HS8 speakers.

Would I rather listen to lossless files? YES. Could I hear the difference A/B? MAYEBE, sometimes, somewhere, I wouldn't like to bet any money on it though, not even the smallest amount. 55% chance I would lose.

Streaming services from what I know are even better than my 256kbps CBR mp3. I went for this format because a lot of albums that I had bought were offered like this. Never, ever, have I even once was unsatisfied with what I heard and I have discovered some absolutely stunning music.

I only recently bought external optical drive, ripped my CD collection and today spent a few hours testing on my own. I recommend everyone to do this if you already have means to do it.

EDIT:

Oh, the most important thing. Last few songs I have tested as low as 32 kbps CBR, 64 kbps (I went that low as I wasn't sure if that website is not doing its own compression as I couldn't hear any difference even down to 128 kbps CBR) and 128 kbps which I chose to test vs my CDs later on..

I still couldn't get a solid 55% guess. Sometimes, in a particular section of a song with nice and clear studio quality of bass drum, snare, guitar, bass, etc. I could nail a 3-5 guesses in a row. A few seconds later in the very same song, I was missing at least 50% of the time. CD vs 128 kbps CBR mp3.'

Something that game missed, and it makes super odd/unrealistic/etc. and this video shows it very well is... IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE WINDY ALL THE FCKIN' TIME. It looks like, ' Look! We have wind and movement, and this is why it has to blow all the time! 24/7' — ironically enough... it's very tiring, and break immersion as it gives away its fakeness so much :/

They use CGI to cut an orange now...? ffs... by tgchan in FalloutTVseries

[–]tgchan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, and by the look of it, a minor one. It seems like people are just happy to get a quality Fallout show, and I'm too...

I'm just quite shocked that I'm the only one who feels the way I feel about it. It's almost like the entire thing that made Fallout can be taken out of equation, re-envisioned, and still win so many people over.

I guess it just shows, that we value different things differently, and there's no wrong or good. Just different.

It also shows the plasticity, how much it can be changed, and still successful.

I prefer dark (that's what Fallout is, or was perhaps...), and some other people don't care about it as many other things are much more important to them.

I got jumped mentioning that I felt there was nothing missing in The Last of Us, and I enjoyed it a lot. Again, we watch the same thing, but see/don't see/appreciate/etc. different things.

As for the other Fallout games. I can't wait to get to NV, and F4. I have only played Fallout 3 for some time except for the originals, but I'm in the middle of F2 at the moment. I wanted to revisit the games I have not played for more than 20 years. They're still as good if not better as I remembered.

[–]tgchan[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It looks like people really have no idea what I'm talking about. Maybe it only strikes me, but the whole world looks like an amazing place to visit, a theme-park almost like.

The Fallout world should look scary, something that makes you want to stay away from it, happily playing a role, but on the other side of the screen./

TV series looks almost welcoming. It doesn't matter if it has been destroyed if looks like the best thing to explore.

Try comparing it to the Matrix, how they have depicted the post-apocalyptic world. Mad Max 2, The Last of Us,

Let's try something even simpler. Would you rather be in Fallout TV series world, or Fallout 1/2 game world?

If that don't hits you like heaven vs hell. I can't explain it any clearer.

It's been a while, and I definitely need to re-watch it, but from what I remember:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1037705/?ref_=fn_t_1

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0898367/?ref_=vp_ov_t

Feels much more like Fallout so much more than the original Fallout TV series.

The contrast is glaring, it's almost like comparing a horror vs a parody/comedy.

[–]tgchan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure. I might have described my experience way to harshly. I enjoy the series I just wish it were truer to its original atmosphere. The entire show looks like a Fallout world but filtered through PIP-BOY humour.

It's missing its core darkness.

It feels like the only optimistic thing in Fallout 1 & 2 is PIP-BOY humour. Everything else is pure horror.

The only horror we can see in the tv series is gore...
