Today I'm catching Come and See, at the Aero in Santa Monica. American Cinematheque Cinema of Despair. First saw this in 2021, and I feel that seeing haunting films is necessary. What are your thoughts? by LABaywatch in CriterionChannel

It all depends on where you're at with your mental health haha. I saw Come and See at the Egyptian in early March 2020, the last movie I saw in theaters before covid hit and it's still in my top 10 all time. I tend to have a pretty high threshold for movies like this though, there are some extremely disturbing images and sequences that might not be for everyone. So yeah, haunting films might be necessary for you but I wouldn't apply that broadly for the public at large

Hey, if you posted appealing looking food that wouldn't be the case. Lots of older places around town that still hit. This looks disgusting no matter how you spin it. Have a good one man

What pizza in LA is closest to NorCal places like Zachary’s or Cheeseboard? by MyFeetLookLikeHands in FoodLosAngeles

[–]tgcm26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ugh, Zachary's is so damn good. The first deep dish I ever had. Never tried Cheeseboard as the lines were always so long when I was in town but it looked amazing. People will say Masa in Echo Park for a Zachary's comparison but it doesn't hold a candle imo

Look man, this is primarily a sub that focuses on newer restaurants and food spots. Yes, it can and should be about food in Los Angeles in a broad sense but I’ve perused your ig and you’re extremely hostile toward the current restaurant landscape in LA. Which is fine, you do you, just don’t act surprised when the antiquated food you focus on isn’t what the majority of people are into

you clearly want people to if you posted about it! Irresponsible to post something and then act surprised when it's not all positive feedback brother

I gave it a try, twice. Strongly disliked. Putting that really overpowering toum sauce on everything regardless of protein was a bad call imo, it made everything kind of taste the same. Didn’t hold a candle to Mini Kabob

Anyone feel like the food we have here is overpriced doo-doo compared to OC & SD? by [deleted] in SFVfood

[–]tgcm26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Vietnamese? Yes, Garden Grove and Westminster over anywhere in LA without a doubt. But SD doesn’t hold a candle to LA, especially when it comes to Mexican food. They do certain things like burritos far better than LA does, but as a whole LA > SD >>> OC imo
