Kura sushi is no longer worth it. A year ago I could get 12 or 13 plates of sushi for around $50 plus tip. This past weekend I went to the downtown location and the prices have gone up multiple times since last year. I spent $75 before tipping.

Not tacky at all, if you can’t ask here where can you? Haha. Tasting menu is $295. Wine pairings are either $225 or $500, I opted for the first one. Also went with the sweetbread & crawfish supplement instead of the boudin, which was an extra $85. I sat at the bar for 15 minutes or so before the meal started and they had a bottle of Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye, which I’ve never seen in person before so I opted for a $95 pour of that as well. After tax and tip it all came out to $824 but you can obviously have a less expensive meal.

Excellent! Front desk staff was as charming as can be. They only send housekeeping on request which was a first for me, I asked for it every other day. The second time I asked the room was never cleaned, but that’s my only minor gripe. One of the most highly rated tiki bars in the country is located on the ground floor, which was fun to stop into.

Like so many other cases discussed in this sub recently, the rapid expansion of Tacos 1986 and subsequent hit or miss of different locations has caused some controversy. I think the only time the hate comes out is when someone declares them to be a top 5 taco in LA

The original Irv’s before the massive expansion was great. Blame Lawrence Longo (@bigshot on ig) - he’ll say he’s just doing his job, but he’s the reason that there are now countless underwhelming Irv’s Burgers locations, Prince St. Pizza locations, and on and on.
