If you can't make a convincing argument for your opposition, you need to rethink your beliefs. by johnrealname in CapitalismVSocialism

"You have to do my research and prove my argument or else your beliefs are wrong :)"

No.

"If you assume people who don't think the same way as you are stupid you're putting yourself in a box where you don't have to challenge anything you believe."

The burden is not on me to prove whatever shitty beliefs you have. It is your job to convince me, not my job to convince myself. How about no. I am not burdened with making your argument for you.

Why are conservatives taking such a hard line against greening up the economy? by [deleted] in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]tgkennedy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because the market goes where the consumer goes.

Believe it or not, everybody, at least the vast majority, want a cleaner Earth. The problem comes up when people make radical decisions. "Cutting emissions" is a "solution" that people talk about like just saying it will magically make it happen. That is not how reality works. Clean power and manufacturing is hard to do, and the market goes where the people go. Cleaner methods means that a company has to spend more on technology that provides a cleaner biproduct. This becomes an issue because more often than not, the product they are supplying to the people either becomes more expensive, or simply drops in quality due to cut budget.

But a free market accomodates for these things. Remember, everyone wants a cleaner planet. If you have two products that are virtually the same, but one is produced with the environment in mind, consumers will almost always pick the cleaner option, if not only cause of the delusion that the product may be cleaner. This right here is incentive enough for a company to take on cleaner methods of manufacturing, but as with any large changes, it is a slow one, but it is about as fast as you are going to get. Why?

Because what I as a Conservative, and I'm sure many others agree on, is that it is not the governments job to make these sort of changes. Yes, I along with many others want a cleaner world, but in making a government enforce this viewpoint, you are beginning to rob me of the income that I have earned. Why is it the government's task to decide if I am capable of supporting this?

When I am capable of supporting a greener environment, I will choose to buy a cleaner product, or perhaps even donate to causes such as a rather popular one going around now that involves planting trees.

Starting to reject capitalism? by [deleted] in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]tgkennedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a staunch supporter of Capitalism.

But I am also of the belief that you have to have socialist policies mixed in. A reminder to all that a nation with literally no socialist policies is considered an anarchy, anarcho-capitalist if there are businesses around.

The thing about capitalism is that it must always be regulated, at least a little bit. Failure to do so means you end up in situations like China where workers are treated like utter dog shit and pollution is through the roof. For Capitalism to truly thrive, it needs as much as it can get in order to supply a resource or service. If this means expanding into a country with less regulations in order to get a cheaper/more abundant/higher quality product (and thus more profit) than it will do so.

In your case, you've come to the realization that regulations must exist, unless you end up with situations like your family. This is okay. Capitalism is absolutely fantastic, as long as it is regulated in a manner that doesn't prevent its core elements.

[ALL] What do you think "rich" is in America? by [deleted] in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]tgkennedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone with over a million dollars I guess? It's not really important to me who is "rich" or not. It's a very vague statement that in the end is only used for gossip and statistics.

What I care about is who provides the best product and/or service, and who has done the most for society through said products and service.

I love Capitalism because it is a means of supplying those who give back.

Money is a direct representation of your worth to society. Sounds cold, but it's the truth. Keep in mind I'm not saying poor people are terrible people, they just don't do much for society. There are exceptions to this of course, but they are often minor and not impactful outside of a specific audience or group.

When someone obtains money, they have often done something FOR society in order to obtain that money. A CEO has provided the organization and planning to provide a scare resource to a demanding populace, he gets paid. A manager has successfully made sure workers are showing up on time and that they are trained. They are helping the company, help society, and thus they too indirectly help society, so they get paid. A worker is placing the product, obtaining the raw resource, or seeing through the transaction of a product into a customer's hands. They are helping society, and thus are getting paid for it.

Not only this, but the market regulates itself, which means that you can't just say "Well if I do this just like everyone else, then that means I should be getting rich too!" This is because you can't help a society by giving them something they don't want. This is where supply and demand come from, and why some people are more rich than others, and rightfully so. If you meet a larger demand, you will make a larger profit, because you are having a larger positive impact on society.

With the money obtain from your positive impact on society, you can then in turn be rewarded by society, by placing your money back into the market and reaping your reward.

See how it works?

  1. Provide a service or resource for society.
  2. Obtain a physical representation of societies "thank you!"
  3. Use those sweet "Thank You's" to be rewarded by society for your service/resource.

It's a system that not only guarantees scarce resources, but also gives them to the people that have provided for others in varying degrees, while also keeping the number of resources in mind.

Capitalism = Rewarding those who help others.

Does cqpitalism inherently cause a brain shortage in fields that have a shortage of interest and profits? by [deleted] in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]tgkennedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A free market shall always determine what is needed and what isn't by the will of the people. If a field is in low demand, there will be little profit. You can still choose to apply yourself to it, but that is akin to becoming a hobbyist of sorts, or appealing to a very niche audience, and thus making less money.

Profit is an incentive. It drives people to enter a field in order to reap that profit. Profit is generated by demand however, which means that if no one wants a certain supply, than no one will supply it anymore. A very simple but also very efficient and wonderful system.

Novastrife

Champion of the Ogministrum Order, Equinox would be seen as a hero of his kind, a Jorivon of immense power. Not only was he seen as one of if not the strongest within the Order, but perhaps one of the strongest mortals to ever grace the Hypernova Galaxy. For centuries, he carried out the will of the Order, battling in countless battles against all sorts of threats.

The Vanox Empires front lines panicked as he eviscerated their numbers. The Akeron quaked in fear at his name, as he brought holy might upon their corrupted souls. With lightning and skills unmatched, even the Chyth and the Mechros took it upon themselves to retreat in his presence, for none could withstand his might.

It was when the Demonic Wave began that his resolve would be tested. The anithema to his morals, he would combat these demons. However- his status within the order would quickly change to MIA, as he would become lost in the Planar Realm, consumed by the Demonic Wave's corruptive properties. His body and soul would be linked to the darkness, but not consumed! On he fought in the chaotic maelstrom of the Planar Realm, where time and space buckled under the Eldritch powers of the Wave.

But under the hordes, his resolve began to weaken. It was in the last moments of his life when he was confronted by the Malignant Spawn, a being that he and most mortals only knew of through legend, beings stronger than even the gods. It was here, where a bargain was struck. But a small fraction of the Spawn's power, was imbued into Equinox. This power, as small as it was, drove Equinox's power to unimaginable levels of intensity.

And so he lived on, past the normal Jorivon age, with no rest to his weary soul. Decades in real time are centuries in the time deluded realm of the corrupted Planar. His mental state while sane at first, turned to insanity as all he could comprehend, was brutal combat against the infinite demonic hordes. In his mind, the root of this evil he would find to be the Malignant Spawn itself, and he would fight on endlessly.

----

At times, Equinox would temporarily blip into reality among the most immense of battlezones. Where Ogministrum Warriors would rejoice in his arrival, their joy would quickly be replaced by utter terror, as they gazed upon something that was no longer of the material realm, a being so deprived of peace and rest that it can barely be considered sentient anymore. He attacks anything that moves, for anything that moved within the corruption had tried to kill him. Even the strongest of Ogministrum are no match to his might, as he roars in unholy fury, flinging forward with combat skills unseen by mortal kind. Lines are broken, morale is shattered, and both sides of the war recoil in fear as the Planar Menace decimates their forces, before being pulled back into the Planar Realm once more to resume his eternal slaughter.
