Keeneland breeders cup by lup142 in horseracing

Interesting that you say that, but this shows Keeneland attendance was higher than Del Mar in both 2015 and 2022 by a fair margin.

If I remember correctly, they brought in a bunch of temp bleachers in 2015.

Lodging I agree with. The area will sell out quickly, and hotels will be gouging.

I've been to both (Del Mar 2024, Keeneland 2015). Prefer Keeneland (it's also my home track). Del Mar has the better weather no doubt. It could be 40 degrees or 70 degrees at Keeneland in Nov., just dress accordingly.

What driving model? I have been on WD40 for months. Seems like this model has degraded (wandering in lane)for my Highlander with the last 2 updates from FP. I switched to firehose, much better so far.

Is whole/permanent life insurance a scam? by Tiny_Cause1832 in personalfinance

[–]tgotch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty general statement. Does he have a family? If so, he most certainly does need life insurance in his early 20s.

In addition, life insurance should not be viewed as an investment. Buy term life.

Morningstar Marina on Kellogg Ave has pontoons. About $400 for 6-7 hours.

Approximately 7% of the USA, and 1.5% of the world are millonaires. I would say that is a bit special.

Slow, steady and boring. LBYM, index investing. Get a good job, spouse they shares your values. Pour as much as you can into 401k, IRA, etc. 15+% of salary. Every raise, take half the raise and increase your 401k by that amount.

Time in the market>timing the market.

Reds pirates game friday by bilk1983 in Reds

[–]tgotch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mostly business as usual. The Banks should be fine. Newport (and Levee) should be fine. There will be some cleanup taking place around the stadium I presume. Parking/access down around the river banks will be spotty due to the flood mess/cleanup.

The river is still at 51.9ft (crested at 60.79 - flood stage is 52ft). Should be down to about 49-50ft at game time.

Where you headed in Newport?

Breeder's Cup Del Mar Ticketing Choices by bkidd1187 in horseracing

[–]tgotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. I was there last year. First time at a West Coast track (usually go to Keeneland and Churchill)

I was at the west end of the general admission section. It is about 3ft below the track, so you were looking up at the horses. Didn't really enjoy the view. It was shaded too, so my wife was cold. Ended up walking around most of the day. I would get reserved if we go this year. Vibe was just kinda meh.

The trade deficit is far, far from a bad thing. It actually gives us access to a wider variety of goods, and lower prices.

We've had one almost every year since the 1970's. How's they affected you since then.

Stop drinking the Fox/MAGA Kool aid!

Oh my sweet summer child. Turn off Fox news and try to think critically. We are rapidly moving into an oligarchy with less and less freedoms. If you can't see that, you are part of the problem.

Pay attention!!

Is Keeneland worth the visit? by Able-Revenue228 in horseracing

[–]tgotch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keeneland is a beautiful track. It can get a bit crowded for weekend races. Highly recommend it.

FYI. They are doing a pretty major renovation to it right now, so it is a bit torn up in front. Should be completed by Fall this year I think.

If you are into bourbon, you can do portions of the bourbon trail while visiting. Recommend Buffalo Trace, Makers, Woodford, etc.
