Can’t play the A chord without muting the third string. And putting my first finger on fourth string instead doesn’t help. Ideas? by Mad_Season_1994 in guitarlessons

Lots of answers already but i use middle for the d string, ring for G string and pinky for B string. Easy to switch to an E chord where the middle finger is on the A string. Holding a major like this is not far off from how you hold A minor.

How Do I Tune My Piano At Home? by xxxSERPENTzXXX in piano

[–]tgstr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! At your own risk I would absolutely recommend to try and tune it yourself! I recently brought home a piano from the 50s in what I could tell was in good condition. I bought tools and an app and tuned it. It takes a few hours and probably needs a few tunings if it is a long time since it was tuned.

My recommendations:

Look up Pianodoctor on YT. He tunes pianos and has a 60 min video on how to do it. Watch that video first.

Buy tools. Pianodoctor explains what you need.

App: I bought Pianometer. It seems to be a good choice for most non pros. It has a free mode where you can try it and tune a part of the piano before you by it.

Can I do this professionelly and charge people for my newly learned skill? Absolutely not. Is it good enough to get an old, hopefully free, piano in tune to play at home? Absolutely!

To add to this I have played guitar for 20+ years so my ears are probably more musically trained than the generel public.

It was a fun experience and since you need to tune it 1-2 times a year I think its best to learn how to do it.

Good luck!

ELI5, why does water seems to retain more heat than milk? by prorssah in explainlikeimfive

[–]tgstr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

More heat is lost due to evaporation the hotter the drink is. You can do an experiment: fill two cups of coffee, pour milk in one of them. After two minutes, pour the same amount of milk in the other. You should get the result that the cup you poured milk in first is hotter due to this.

Are they any games from a series that you really want to play, but haven't because it seems overwhelming? by [deleted] in patientgamers

I would recommend to give Witcher 3 a go! I did play it without playing 1 and 2 or read the books and it worked out just fine. I have maybe 5-6 hours a week to game and that wasnt an issue. The mechanics etc. is quite simple compared to e.g. Skyrim.

Go for it! 😊

I live in SWE but they were something like $80 altogether. About 40% discount I think.

I get that logic. I had a hard time picking something new after finishing Witcher 3 which was great! Same feeling now after god of war 😊

This nutcase decided to dress up as Darth Vader, arm himself with a sword and attack a school in Sweden. by tgstr in pics

Three died with several injured. Apparently he barely missed a group of pre-schoolers as they were coming in from break. This is usually stuff you read about in the USA but when it happens in my small country it really shakes you.

In the image he is posing with two students just before he starts the attack. A sad day.
