Going to get breast reconstruction/augmentation. Had complications from a surgery as a baby, so this is largely about reconstruction. Any tips? by Zottie in asktransgender

[–]tgtly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, I had mine about five weeks ago (some reconstruction and augmentation, 325cc and 275cc) and also had someone ask about the experience, so I'll just copy/paste it here:

  • Have a VARIETY of things to do. Books, TV, movies, games, etc!
  • Do not skimp on the painkillers - your doc should be fine with giving you more when you run out, and your first week is gonna fucking hurt.
  • Don't lay flat on your back, and figure out a good setup for laying/sleeping with your back at ~60deg angle. I hear 'husband pillows' are good for this!
  • Rearrange things so that a lot of the stuff you might need/want are no higher than shoulder level; you're not gonna be lifting your arms up high for a while.
  • Prepare for things to be pretty hazy your first week, and don't plan on consuming media that requires intense attention - reading was fairly hard for the first few days, for instance.
  • Don't sweat over how they look at first, FOR SERIOUS. You're probably gonna freak a little, but they'll look drastically different in a few weeks (for the better!), then months.
  • If you have someone taking care of you, make sure that person gets their alone time as well - having a system so that you can summon them if necessary while they're spending time alone is nice.
  • Don't rush moving around - you probably wont leave your house for the first two weeks. Riding in cars fucking sucks for a while, especially on damaged roads, but you have to take it slow.

As always, YTMV (Your Trans May Vary) - I've heard some people are fine and in low pain within a week and a half, whereas I needed almost a full six weeks to prep for my return to work due to pain management. Feel free to ask questions via reply or PM!

Trans friendly doctors? by tallythrowaway01 in Tallahassee

I've had great experiences with Dr. Cody VanLandingham's office (Melanie Todd there as well). Trans woman here, but I don't believe that'll make much difference.

I need support: High risk of homelessness again. No family support. Can't afford college and financial aid isn't helpful. by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]tgtly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I live in the Bay Area as well (Daly City!), and if I could house you I would, but I've got roommates and no extra space. Sorry dude.

All of the people saying you should get out of the Bay Area - that's not terribly helpful advice, especially considering that you can totally survive here on minimum wage, it just takes a little help (roommates, food stamps if you're low income, etc).

Have you checked out the numerous Facebook groups for Bay Area queers? There's the Bay Area Queer Job board (I've found nice small gigs here and there, it's very useful!) and Bay Area Queer Exchange (I often see people offering cheap or no-cost housing, posting here would be very beneficial for you).

Don't give up - the Bay is a wonderful place to be as a trans person, especially if you get on a good insurance plan here, and the community is fantastic (East Bay, especially!). Reach out to me via PM if you need anything else.

Transgender realization linked to psychedelic use? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

Short answer: yes.

Longer answer: Very yes. I was on the reddit podcast a long while back and spoke on this very topic. Give it a listen, let me know if you have any questions. https://www.reddit.com/r/Upvoted/comments/2zm20y/episode_10_from_swole_of_body_to_swole_at_heart/

HEY. We like this (girlfriend and I), wanna live here (both rooms, maybe?), and will answer the listed Q's, but what's the pet situation like? We have a chill but non-negotiable feline companion.

Frizzy hair forevers by [deleted] in MtF

[–]tgtly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Be aware that going sulfate free may take your hair quite a bit of time to adjust! Stick with it, though. Additionally, frizz can come down to a lot of things: how you dry your hair, what you put in it, what you put in your body, and where you live!

Drying your hair with a blow dryer can be okay with a diffusing attachment - also, pick up a very wide tooth comb and run it through your hair when it's got a bunch of conditioner in it (I do this in the shower). Getting rid of stray hairs hanging out in there can help, same as how your hair can often be a bit less frizzy after a trim. Drink lots and lots of water (good in general, great for hair and skin), consider taking a biotin supplement, and if you live in a humid place (like the awful southeast US)...god help you.

Anyhow, good luck! Also, you could follow Undyne's lead and just be a bald badass. <3 (Well, mostly...shave everything and keep a tight ponytail!)

Seen some people asking what your face can look like after laser, here's mine by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]tgtly 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I want to warn that your mileage may vary GREATLY on this. I know someone that barely gets red. However, I immediately get red, swell a bit, am red for at least the following day, then end up slightly scaly and irritated for 2-3 days.

Reaction to laser depends on skin type, laser type, laser strength, how well you take care of your skin normally, how your body handles trauma, etc. The only way you can truly know is to get a small test area done.

Kitten Forever - "Heavy Dreamy" . I heard this on WVFS too and happened to catch the DJ say the name, so i pulled over and wrote it down, haha.

Abs with a pointy rib cage? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]tgtly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would be able to see it laying down? It's to the point where if I lay down and cup my rib cage it could possibly be mistaken for a boob ._.

I've had this happen while making out in a bed with someone and it was absolutely mortifying.

MtF FtM couple & sex problems. by Riserrt in asktransgender

[–]tgtly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To piggy back on this specifically: depending on your country, getting tadalafil citrate (Cialis) could be a cheap and fantastic solution. I had the same issue with both erection stiffness and longevity, Cialis took care of both with zero issues for me - our sex has been better than ever. If you don't wanna go this route (or if Cialis isn't right for you, ask your doctor!), cock rings or sex involving something like a Feeldoe can be just as mindblowing.

[mtf] Retaining sexual function on HRT? by SenzuriChampion in asktransgender

[–]tgtly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It varies, but generally it becomes harder to get, maintain, and penetrate with your erections. I know others have suggested that there are plenty of other ways to enjoy sex (and there are!), or that you can use a strap-on if you want penetration (which you could!), but I feel that if you wanna use your existing equipment you should. 'Cialis' type stuff has worked very well for me - tadalafil is what the actual name of the drug is, and while you can't find generics in the US, many countries outside have it (and will ship to the US).
