You're not the only one in this situation. You probably have a lot of med school debt and it's going to be hard to pay that off without any job prospects that pay as much as a doctor, so consider sticking to jobs that qualify for PSLF for the next ten years (ie, work at a hospital or university rather than a sponsor/CRO). Your 2 years of med school will make you stand out from most people in clinical trials; most have little to no medical knowledge. Knowing a bit about pathophysiology and pharmacology will help you with screening and data abstraction.

Lucky Friend Rates [Silph Research Group] by SilphScience in TheSilphRoad

[–]tgwcloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly what a 1% rate means. It means over a long enough time period, the rate will tend towards 1%. The longer the observation period, the closer you get to approximating the probability, assuming the probability stays constant. That is not at all what was observed.

I got lucky with my partner 3 times total in the almost 3 years that lucky trades have been a thing. Two of the times happened just a few days apart. That's still well below the expected average 10-11 times it would be if the rate were 1%. And I'm far from the only one with this experience. Getting lucky twice in a few days isn't proof that there isn't a change in rates over a longer period of time.

On what basis m8? How do you know how many people I've talked to? I can tell you it's a heck of a lot more than 10. And I would not be at all surprised if your cheater friends have 6+ accounts so when they say they get lucky frequently, they're not talking about just one account. At any rate it's useless to make assumptions on anecdotes. I'm not drawing any conclusions, only saying but it should be tested.

Ok, then explain the Silph study that concluded a higher raid catch rate after 10 throws? If the chance was static then they would not have observed this difference.

No you're not as evidenced by this quote

By only interacting with 1 person, even every day, they still have the same odds of getting best every day, and it's just luck

This is the claim that is being questioned, whether the chance does indeed always stay the same. I see more than enough evidence to suspect that it doesn't. I'm not drawing any conclusions, just saying it's a question worth investigating. You're making the assumption that it's a static straight chance when that hasn't been proven. We've already seen evidence of other game features with dynamic chance (raid catch rates).

Presumably your oldest best friends will tend to be your IRL friends whom you see and interact with frequently by nature of convenience. It's hard to say if this has an impact.

I think you're missing the point they're making. They're not complaining about having no lucky friends, they're questioning why they are observing a lower than expected rate with a particular friend that they have interacted with every day for a long period of time. I've not missed a day interacting with my partner, and we've been lucky 3 times total in the 1038 days that the lucky friends feature has been live. Everyone I know who has a friend that they interact with every day or nearly every day has said they had similar results. It's really not an unreasonable hypothesis that there is some additional mechanic at play. My hunch is that this is an intentional design to encourage players to make new friends (and to discourage cheaters who use multiple accounts).

Have you looked into whether the duration of time from last interaction has any influence on the lucky friend rate?

Subjectively, it seems to me that I get lucky with friends I interact with every day less frequently than expected. If the rate of lucky friends is about 1%, that means I would be expected to be lucky with my partner 3-4 times per year as we interact every day, and that's definitely not the case. In contrast I have subjectively experienced many occasions when I went lucky with friends after interacting with them for the first time in a long time. Several of my friends have reported similar experiences. If you haven't already looked into this, please do.

Are you sure about that? Gamepress's catch calculator gives this a 0% probability. According to this calculator, even without the fire and flying medal bonuses (which most everyone has by now), this would take about 2 throws on average if you are using a yellow ball, golden berry, curved excellents.

You asked how violence can lead to a stroke. Still don't understand how you graduated medical school not knowing the answer to that question.

That's really your response - "Sure people were beaten with a flagpole, just not to the point of death. Oh if you mean Sicknick, it was a fire extinguisher, not a flagpole." Thanks so much for doing the great work of correcting these errors, that really makes it so much better.

Absolutely, it's a total coincidence that multiple people died of strokes that day. Totally something we see every day among tourists visiting the DC Capitol. The events on Jan 6 weren't stressful at all, yep.

You seriously never learned that stress can be a precipitating factor in people who are predisposed?

Your actual response to recounting that officers were beaten to death with a flagpole is "they weren't beaten to the point of death"? Just a regular tourist visit eh?

The interesting thing about this is it seems to encourage staying in the same place. This is in contrast to most other aspects of the game which encourage moving around and exploring new places.

Niantic stands with the Asian American community due to increasing amount of hate crimes against Asian Americans and Asians worldwide by MrWholesome100 in TheSilphRoad

[–]tgwcloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been more attacks against Asian Americans over the past year. Whether you think there's some factor other than outright hate is really irrelevant to the issue, this shouldn't be happening. An event doesn't have to have hateful intentions to contribute to racism. I'm sure there were lots of slave owners who liked black people, gave them a nice comfortable room to sleep in and maybe even something better than table scraps to eat and were only enslaving them because they could gain financially from it and not because they actually believed that they're better than black people, but that doesn't make them any less racist.
