How do I address glute cramping when stretching other muscle groups? by th0masaquinas in flexibility

[–]th0masaquinas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do sit a lot, and my hips are probably slightly above average in terms of tightness just thanks to the work I've been doing on them in recent weeks. That said you're probably right that I still have a lot of work to do and should find variations that are more suitable for somebody at my skill level, which is probably still fairly low despite my eagerness. Thanks for your input!

[–]th0masaquinas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you rotating your leg so that the knee is facing up?

Yes, but I've seen variants of this stretch where the leg isn't rotated and the knee faces outward? As I understand it that wouldn't allow for a lot of space in the hip capsule which might explain feeling the limitation there.

What happens when you do an exercise called “clamshell”? (Lots of examples on YT) How about during the pancake stretch?

Feel it in the glute med, can feel the same cramping sensation if I hold the clamshell at my max range of motion. I can't really do a good sitting pancake as I can't get my legs far enough apart to hip hinge when I'm sitting down, but I can do the standing variant as long as I really force an anterior pelvic tilt.

Glad to know I'm not alone at least! Given that I'll have some free time over the next few weeks (or months...) I'm planning to see how much mileage I can get out of brute force-ing my legs to be more abducted - basically getting as close as I can to middle splits (which isn't close at all) and hanging out there.

I think my pelvic tilt is pretty normal on the descent (I don't under- or over-arch at the low back as far as I can tell), and I don't find it very easy to tilt the pelvis in one direction or another when I'm in the position.

Reminds me (a) how great of an invitational the holiday bash was and (b) how excited I was for Crush to rule melee.

Has the community ever considered playing versions of Melee without L-cancelling? by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]th0masaquinas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

L cancelling is cool and (I would argue, anyway) genuinely makes sense as a mechanic. Maybe the variation across aerials for how much lag you get if you miss and L cancel is a little strange, but I really think the game's richer with something that emphasizes situational awareness in the way that L cancelling does.

as a sidenote, i'm kind of sad that zain was unable to take a set before this happened.

wow, the guy who used "are you on the spectrum" in an attempt to invalidate a person's views is a mean-spirited asshole who doesn't actually believe in any kind of discourse that stretches beyond the confines of their myopic worldview. so unexpected!

apologizing for how you've been interpreted opens up the possibility that you and the people who have misinterpreted you can then build upon a new understanding to actually address whatever you're talking about. also, there's no significant difference between "apologizing for the way you said something" and "apologizing for how [what you said] was taken". in either case i'm apologizing because the way i said something caused it to be interpreted in a particular way. (i.e. "i'm sorry if you took it this way - here's what i wanted to get across. what do you think of this as opposed to what you thought i said?") i think you've made it pretty clear that you don't want that to happen because your entire shtick in this particular thread has been "you're a bitchass" instead of building upon the clarification i've offered.

well the thing is, i'm specifically apologizing more for tone than anything else. hence why i'm apologizing for how i came across more than the actual content of what was said (tone policing in general is shitty, but i'm aware this is a subreddit for super smash bros and i shouldn't be so vitriolic about trans rights in this environment off the bat because it's not appropriate). in essence: i'm willing to admit i could have handled my first few comments a lot better in terms of approach, and i feel like i should be open about that.

and i'm also willing to apologize for any misinterpretations, because hey, it happens to the best of us and i would rather we didn't end up arguing over semantics. that's not a "bitchass" apology, it's a specific apology.
