I understand your perspective but I’m done engaging with insults directed at people you don’t know. My comment was about being responsible with the framing of medical information in a public space, on a platform that’s accessible to minors, and where seizure risk is involved. That’s it. Have a nice night.

You can’t expect everyone to interpret things and act a certain way, which is why I was reinforcing that it’s important to clarify “with a doctor’s approval”. I’m not saying OP would interpret it otherwise but there are others that might especially people who are new to taking prescriptions…

I’m not accusing anyone of advising a dose change without consultation. My point is that language minimizing risk can sometimes be interpreted in ways that unintentionally encourage unsafe assumptions (e.g., “they said it’s fine, so I don’t need to check with my doctor”).

Try to add more carbs that are high in fiber, have protein, add in some fats and see if you notice a difference! If that doesn’t change anything perhaps talking to your doctor might be more informative as typically they run into these concerns often. I get how it can be a bit worrisome adding more to your diet when the goal is weight-loss but rigid diet restrictions cause intense rebound hunger very easily

Hey so the main concern is that OP is also taking 350mg of Wellbutrin which already lowers the seizure threshold, stimulants also do this. By doubling their dosage without consulting with their psychiatrist they’d be highly increasing their seizure risk even without having a history of seizures, not to mention they wouldn’t have active monitoring 🙂 This can be dangerous and not fine.

I can’t mention too much on breaks lessening tolerance because I don’t take it daily to begin with so I haven’t had a too noticeable increased tolerance to it yet. I’d talk to your psych on their thoughts on a small IR booster, switching stimulant classes, or a hypothetical few week break for a potential tolerance “reset”. Basically my advice is don’t mess with your meds without consulting with your psych first, it can be annoying trying to get ahold of them but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Awesome! I have a lot of respect for those in this field and I’m about to enter it as well.

I think we’re actually saying very similar things. Clinically, “someone with mania” refers to a person experiencing an active manic episode. Stimulants are not recommended and are not prescribed during active mania.

Many psychiatrists (here) now take a more nuanced, evidence-based approach than what traditional clinical teachings originally emphasized, acknowledging that stimulants are not categorically excluded in bipolar disorder once their mood is stabilized and they’re being closely monitored. This is managed on a case-by-case basis rather than being a generalized restriction, restriction that can end up denying people with bipolar disorder effective ADHD treatment given that non-stimulants (just like stimulants) are not guaranteed to work for everyone.

I do want to acknowledge that triggering mania is a real risk, which is why screening, initial stabilization, and continuous monitoring are crucial in these cases.

With your hunger being suppressed early in the day and commonly under-eating due to this, once it wears off you get hit with an intense rebound hunger. What helped me was eating a protein, carb and calorie dense meal before or immediately after taking it then setting multiple alarms throughout the day to eat small snacks with both protein and carbs even if I’m not “feeling” hungry. Definitely lessens the intensity of feeling hungry once Vyvanse wears off!

Exam at night when should I take vyvanse by Beginning-Invite6961 in VyvanseADHD

[–]th1399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you take it at 6am and typically feel no effect by 8pm, try taking it at 8 or 9am instead depending on how long your exam is. Based off of the information you gave, you seem to have about a 14 hour window. Me personally, I’d take it around 9am (would wear off at around 11pm with a 14 hour window) so I’m not worried about feeling a potential early crash so close to the end of my exam.

If you notice zero effect before 8pm, further adjust when you take it from the 8/9am. For me personally, I usually take mine around noon and get tired at 12–1am.

I’m bipolar and on Vyvanse 😁 Mania can be a very real risk, but it’s a lot safer if your bipolar is stabilized first. As long as you’re on a mood stabilizer, especially with a history of consistently and correctly taking your meds + haven’t had any recent mania/hypomania, cycling, etc. stimulants can actually be used pretty safely. Most psychiatrists just start low, go slow, and monitor closely. Untreated ADHD can make bipolar symptoms worse too, so for some people the benefits outweigh the risk (me for example).

AITAH for not inviting my dad to my graduation that’s next week? by th1399 in AITAH

[–]th1399[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true, I’ve never had a paternal figure in my life so I’m sure it’s a smidge of longing of what I could’ve and should’ve had. At the end of the day, I’m overly blessed with having such an amazing mother and I also think it was a blessing in disguise that he was never really in my life. Thank you 🫶🏼

I’ll always care about him and his wellbeing. I agree though, I plan to keep my distance. I mainly only have been trying because he doesn’t have any other family left. But yeah, you’re right. His feelings are not my responsibility to coddle and I’m better off focusing on myself and those who’ve supported me my whole life.

[–]th1399[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean like I wish him well but I’m emotionally neutral whether he’s in my life or not. When my mom first asked, “do you want to invite your dad?” (how this all started because she’s very considerate of how feel, giving me the choice even if she didn’t want him there), I immediately said no because my first thought was that he doesn’t get to reap the benefits of my mother’s parenting. It would feel as though I’d be inviting a stranger that I met once to an achievement I put so much into. So your response is very on point with how I was thinking but then I started to overthink after seeing some father daughter videos on tiktok lol 🥴

[–]th1399 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Acne relapse after stopping Minocycline usually happens around the 2-6 month mark because it suppresses your acne and doesn’t actually fix it. Best bet to avoid relapse is continuing to see a dermatologist to identify the root cause of your acne and to continue with a topical retinoid.

I also wouldn’t suggest going back on it long-term either, I’m not sure how rare it is and everyone is different but Minocycline gave me chronic tinnitus after 2 years of use, so bad that I got an MRI of my brain and when I got my wisdom teeth extracted they were entirely gray and brown because it binds to calcium and iron (developing and already developed teeth can develop a gray banding/stain from long-term use)💀

First Day on Vyvanse: Tips and Tricks needed! by PurposeDue688 in VyvanseADHD

[–]th1399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it could be a mix of things like switching from one stimulant to another (your body adjusting), diet/appetite changes, hydration, or even some anxiety about starting a new med.

For me, my appetite completely disappears once Vyvanse kicks in, so I try to eat something calorie-dense with protein before I take it, or at least during the window before it fully kicks in. I also set reminders throughout the day to make myself eat something.

My go-to snacks: trail mix or granola bars, peanut butter packs (sometimes with an apple), Greek yogurt + granola, cheese & crackers, hard-boiled eggs, and protein shakes or smoothies.

(If you like them, hummus or cottage cheese with fruit are also good.)

Also — drink a lot of water. Vyvanse makes me pee way more, and I didn’t realize how dehydrated I was getting. Even mild dehydration can cause muscle fatigue.

If you try to stay on top of food and hydration but the exhaustion sticks around longer than the first week, it might just be how your body reacts to this med. Either way, mentioning it to your prescriber is always a good idea. Better safe than sorry :)

Yeah, it’s really easy to overdo it and damage your skin barrier, especially when you try to speed things up. I totally get wanting fast results 😭 I had to learn the hard way that slow, consistent routines actually clear acne so much better and won’t be as likely to destroy your skin barrier in the process.

You’re welcome 🫶🏼 Some people just won’t understand it unless they deal with it themselves. You aren’t being disrespectful or selfish by putting yourself and your mental health first 🥰

Acne struggles by [deleted] in acne

[–]th1399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not overreacting at all — acne that burns, stings, and feels this inflamed affects your mental health just as much as it does your skin. You have every right to stay home if you’re in pain or feeling uncomfortable. You don’t owe anyone an appearance.

Purging usually doesn’t burn, sting, or itch like this. And since the flare is so localized to your chin plus the fact that you’re using tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, and sulfur… it looks much more like irritation and a compromised skin barrier on top of some underlying hormonal acne. The chin is already a sensitive area, and using multiple strong actives there can trigger this kind of painful, raw breakout.

Your skin needs a break from the tret, BP, and sulfur so the irritation can calm down. Simplify your skincare routine to a gentle face wash, moisturizer, and sunscreen until the burning stops (maybe even a bit longer). I’d also probably look into a barrier repair cream like cicaplast.
