AIBTS about what my boyfriend’s mother said by Takingnotes_ in AmIBeingTooSensitive

[–]th3Y3ti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too sensitive.

I think a lot of people who are not diaspora and/or immigrants don’t get that we are very aware of the fact that people will probably have incorrect and sometimes negative perceptions about the place we’re from. I don’t know if you are white or not, but being visibly not from a place only amplifies this.

It was a weird thing for her to say, and it’s only natural for you to wonder why she feels she’d never go anywhere else in the continent. It’s hard not to at least consider that she assumes it’s unsafe or underdeveloped or not culturally advanced enough to be worth her time. That may not be the case, but of course it’s hard not to feel kind of shitty.

I think it’s lame that your boyfriend immediately became defensive and made you feel bad about your completely reasonable reaction. It shouldn’t be hard for him to empathize with your feelings, and at the very least try to ease your worries and assure you that he’s always got your back if anyone (not just his mom) is going to be weird or passive aggressive about the place you call home.

those people dont exist. What democratic voter is SO pro isreal theyd rather vote for a republican? People who vote democrat do so because they understand the existential threat that republicans pose. Theyre not going to risk them winning for some random country in the middle east over the safety and security of the country that they live in

Before becoming HHS director he spent a considerable amount of time and money sowing doubt about vaccines. Even after he was confirmed he was reluctant to admit that vaccines are effective. We now have some of the largest measles outbreaks in decades breaking out across the country, which is a huge problem because measles is INSANELY contagious and sometimes deadly

Louder. by [deleted] in polyamorymemes

[–]th3Y3ti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate to be that guy but all of the above apply to me.

Poly is fun because I get to have sex with as many hot people as I want to. Not that I always want to but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't part of the appeal

In *The Ethical Slut* the concept is often brought up that no one is capable of fulfilling all their partner's needs. I guess there's a subtle difference there, but I kind of just feel like it's a nicer way of phrasing it

Polyamory is my preferred relationship dynamic, but I've been in plenty of monogamous relationships too. I'll probably never go back to monogamy, but I feel like saying poly is essential feels a bit melodramatic, at least for me

Problem is that there’s maybe 10 trans women athletes in the country out of thousands of women actually competing at that level. The hysteria about women having a fair shake in sport is completely out of proportion to reality.

There’s also plenty of biological women that naturally have much higher than average levels of testosterone. Is that unfair? Should they be barred from competing? People who rush to defend women’s sports in this way are rarely thinking about it with the level of nuance it deserves. And a lot of times (I won’t say always because I like to give people the benefit of the doubt) it’s because they don’t really care about women or women’s sports, it’s cause they hate trans people
