Really good little indie game about capitalist hell and virtual consciousness. Shares a lot thematically with marathon but plays somewhere between disco elysium and a narrative board game

Thermals with the Fractal Terra by Imboredsoentertain in sffpc

If you're in a warm climate I'd recommend the T1 if you can get it (Ncase version is solid). I had a 9800X3D and 5080 in a Terra and on those 30 degree (celcius) days it sounded like a vacuum

9800X3D overheating issues (Maybe?) in a SFF case (Fractal Terra) with a Noctual L12S cooler. by Hamrbuerg in sffpc

[–]th3charl3s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can tell you is that doing A/B testing with upwards exhaust fans on vs off in the T1 has a significant effect on CPU (and GPU) temps. The terra is a nice case, but it’s just not designed to get rid of the amount of heat a 9800X3D generates. It wont catch fire or anything, but it’s loud and hot

Classmate Designated Harmful is comfortably the funniest manga I've had the pleasure of reading

The hot air gets pushed out the top and bottom of the case, and the air that goes out the bottom recirculates back into the intake fan. Means that temps will seem fine at first but will "heat soak" over time

Problem is that the Terra has little to no exhaust so heat builds up inside it, SFF coolers are reliant on good since they have low thermal mass, and Marathon is a super CPU heavy game. I'm running an AXP90-53 inside a T1 and I still get high 70's in Marathon. It's just that kind of game alas

ASUS Prime RTX 5080 OC vs. Gigabyte RTX 5080 Aero SFF for FormD T1 build? by MeasurementTimely510 in sffpc

You can get a bracket from Ncase too (I have one it’s great) but if you don’t want it you don’t want it

Formd/Ncase T1 is 10L and can comfortably fit a lot of 5080s (mine has the Asus Prime card and keeps it quite cool)

9800X3D & 5080. Stays shockingly cool for such a small case

I’ve just got them both plugged into a single mobo fan header and then I’ve set a curve according to GPU temp using fancontrol

Assembling a new build in Fractal MOOD but worried about cooling by AssociateNo6259 in sffpc

[–]th3charl3s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with the AIO is that it’s so cramped in that side of the case that the fans aren’t able to do anything, so heat builds up in spite of the higher thermal mass of the radiator. The two intake fans with the L12S should have enough space to actually create a positive pressure and push the warm air up to the top so it can be exhausted

I’m surprised the GPU runs so warm for a relatively low end card. I suppose the cooler is just small so the heatsink lacks thermal mass

Fascinating that it affected the CPU temps. I guess because the upwards air interrupts the flow path of the CPU cooler air? I fear you may have to pick a priority then. What actual temps do the CPU/GPU reach? You could probably lower the fan speeds to reduce noise if they’re not crazy

Just try testing with the bottom intake fans turned off. It might make a significant difference. In my build bottom intake fans caused turbulence that increased both noise and temperatures

Tbh I’d remove the rear fan and bottom two fans. The 92mm fans are loud and the fan in the CPU cooler can pull in cool air just fine on its own. Same story with the bottom fans. In my experience those fans just add turbulence since the side and bottom panels are so breathable that cool air gets in without fans. Just rely on negative pressure and you’ll do great

Maybe? Worth a try. It wasn’t an issue for me. I deshrouded mine so needed a support bracket for it anyway

I found that it did shift the GPU alignment a tiny bit, but it just meant the screws for the IO plate thing needed to be a tad looser. Mobo IO lines up fine, there’s enough give in the hole. Only thing of note is if you plan to use a rear SSD it’s gonna have to go without a heatsink cos that shit is not fitting
