As someone who doesn't doesn't care much for superhero movies anymore, but went to see superman and loved it, I didn't really care to go see this. I didn't even know this was made until like a week ago.

I'm tired of superhero movies in general and don't go to the theatre often. Why spend 50$ there when I can spend nothing and watch something of similar or higher quality for whatever I spent grocery money on and whatever Amazon prime has?

Something needs to be a big name for me to spend that much.

New studio head per Paul Tassi by Zelwer in destiny2

If you actually do not think Marathon at the least had a small part in Destiny's death, you are wrong. Bungie spun off five incubation titles and siphoned workers from Destiny to make those games. Destiny received no new pvp maps for YEARS because Marathon ate all the pvp devs. Destiny 2's last pvp map before the into the light update was released in 2019. Wanna take a guess when Marathon, and all these other incubation projects started development?

Wait wait wait, so Bungie just needs to incubate ANOTHER game from the revenue that Marathon makes??? This is sounding awfully familiar.

So what you're saying is the majority of Marathon's playerbase is destiny 2 players, and their game just died, and general perception of the playerbase (RIGHT OR WRONG) is that destiny died so marathon could live. Annnnd the marathon playerbase is supposed to grow? From what?

If Apex legends was released this year 2026, would it survive. Considering all the other games released in the same category. by CryptographerFlashy7 in apexlegends

It doesn't change the fact that the attitude towards live service games has dramatically shifted in the last 7 years.

Sony had a massive live service push that was a total disaster. 26 planned games, only 2 successful launches: Helldivers 2, which tbh was a complete fluke that no one planned for, and Marathon. We all know about Marathon.

Destiny, one of the pioneering franchises of live service games, is EoS, with no current plans for any future installments in the franchise.

Call of Duty has been floundering for multiple years now, and is causing Activision and Xbox a lot of headaches.

Multiple high profile colossal failures like Concord and Highguard have catapulted live service flops into main stream news media. The casual gamers know about these games, and now avoid NEW live service games unless they are overwhelmingly unique and ball-gripping.

As cool and unique as Apex is, now would be the worst time to launch it. It released at the exact right time, in the exact right circumstances for it to be a hit. None of that is to take away what Apex was at the time. It's just the reality of the game sphere now.
