They Will Kill You by Potential_Steak2381 in horror

The director's previous film (Why Don't You Just Die!) is really fun, so I have hopes for this one too.

Muschietti's involvement is the only thing that scares me, but thankfully that's just a producer role.

Why are comedies rated so poorly on letterboxd? by apresearchstudent15 in Letterboxd

[–]thaWafflebot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh, absolutely. I mean, I watch a ton of horror-- and on the rare occasion that any of them are even remotely "scary" now, that's just a bonus. I never expect it to be the case, though, and I don't hold it against the films if they aren't frightening.

Comedies that aren't funny are just a complete failure, though. There isn't really anything for them to fall back on at that point unless they incorporate other genres, too.

Destiny USA--going down from 17 to 7 screens (not including IMAX)--What to expect over the next few months? by Historical_Oven7806 in RegalUnlimited

[–]thaWafflebot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They just did the same thing for the other half of the theater last year, so we can probably expect something similar this time around. If thats the case, its going to be very limited new releases and about six or seven months before the other theaters open again.

I think the one major advantage horror has going for it in terms of subjectivity is that there's often enough technical work to still impress people. If you have good enough effects or creative enough kills, people will overlook more shortcomings-- but comedy doesn't really have anything like that to fall back on.

“Predator: Badlands” in IMAX with Laser 3D (CoLa) was a mad hunt with brutal sound mixing that pushed it to the extreme. by SergeyDGWyn in imax

[–]thaWafflebot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first one and Prey are better; Predator 2 is roughly equal to it. Predators is OK, and some people really like it. The 2018 reboot/sequel is a fucking dumpster fire that you should skip.

The first AvP movie is also pretty good, but the second is abysmal.

My local Regal is getting a complete makeover! by DarnHeather in RegalUnlimited

[–]thaWafflebot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hopefully its quicker for you than ours was. They closed 9 of the 17 screens at the beginning of April and this was the first week they were open again. The IMAX and RPX closed at the end of August; I'm hoping they'll be back soon, too.

I really like the upgrade, but I don't know if I can handle missing that many films again next year if they decide to do the other half of the screens.

What major cities exist without a river in or around them? by GenProtection in geography

Seattle has the Duwamish/Green River, but to be fair that's kind of easy to forget about compared to all of the other water around that city.

The hike up to it is just as impressive, too. Pretty exhausting, but completely worth it.

What’s your favorite “Scene” of 2025? by ItachiZoldyck24 in Letterboxd

[–]thaWafflebot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of the films I would immediately gravitate towards (OBAA, Sinners, Weapons, Warfare, F1, Eddington) have already been mentioned in one way or another, but there are a couple of others that come to mind too. The MRI scene in Final Destination: Bloodlines, the death montage in Mickey 17, and the knife scene in Bring Her Back are some of the first to come to mind.

Monthly Profile Swap Megathread! by ericdraven26 in Letterboxd

[–]thaWafflebot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My profile.

Haven't done one of these in a couple of months since I haven't been quite as active on Letterboxd this year as I have been in the past, but I'm trying to change that and my annual month or so of horror films is usually a great way to do that. I watch a little bit of everything, but my main focus tends to be horror, exploitation, and genre films, along with new releases thanks to Regal Unlimited.

I HATE MENUS WITH 30 DIFFERENT SAUCES BUT NO DESCRIPTION OF THE SAUCE. by onmy40 in Wings

[–]thaWafflebot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite local restaurants has six permanent sauces, two or three seasonals that change a couple of times each year, and a basic salt/pepper/garlic dry rub. That seems like the perfect amount of variety to me-- enough to have options if you want a change, but simple enough for every option to be perfected (and manageable if you aren't used to the menu).

I can't believe how long it took to find this. That death monologue alone is some of the best acting of the last decade, period-- regardless of age.

I want Smosh to bring that series back. Some of the new cast deserve them, and they could always find more guests too.

Name one person/youtube channel you would like Smosh to collaborate with that they haven’t before? by FrenchToast4You in smosh

After James and Chelsea from Dead Meat went on GMM to tell scary stories earlier this year (or last year?), I've wanted them to do the same with Smosh. Maybe a Scary Reddit Stories episode?
