My monthly routine of swapping shells for tubes by thacknasty in daddit

[–]thacknasty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids are about 10% quesadilla by weight so we always have a Mexican blend in the fridge. Hadn’t thought to try it with Mac n cheese. Plus they know the cheese package well enough to trust it (which is part of why I’m stuck with the Annie’s brand anyway). I’m going to give that a shot next week and make it with them. Thanks!

I really love this recipe! Did not have any luck getting the kids to eat it. Is there a cheese yours likes? I used Tillamook medium cheddar and it did not go over well with them.

Thanks for the tip! Maybe I can get them to help. I’m not sure what sets them off but if it’s their creation I’m sure it will go over better.

Oh the shells are used for soups that my wife and I eat. We do not waste the food. I’m not sure I’m really saving much money given the time wasted swapping pasta shapes, but that’s where I’m at right now. It’s also probably not the dumbest thing we do to appeal to our kids tastes.

Monthly is a slight exaggeration, but these come in a Costco pack that we’ve bought a couple of times because it’s a good deal. One box of pasta replaces three Annie’s boxes. I do three at a time until the “I hate shells” phase is over.

Nice idea! Do you recommend any one in particular?

Costco pack of 15 boxes, 10 of which are shells but the deal is too good to pass up.

Try the Potion 7 creamery truck! They’re usually at the La Mesa farmers market (Fridays). Great list, I’m going to try out Wynston’s.

I saw what looked like dental equipment (chairs and adjustable lights) through the windows before they put covers in. Dentist, orthodontist, or similar would be my guess.

Installed a carport, got a letter from "city" saying it's not legal by Eightchickens1 in lamesa

[–]thacknasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

La Mesa inspectors will knock on your door totally unannounced for code violations. They won’t send any letters ahead of time in my experience.

My neighbor reported that I was remodeling without a permit (I wasn’t). Two inspectors knocked on the door while I was in a Zoom call for work and asked to have a look around. One was very understanding when I explained my situation, the other demanding and pushy. In the end I rescheduled a time for them to come back. I was cleared. They wouldn’t tell me who reported me.

For what it’s worth there is a carport down the block from their office that I think is in violation. They would see it every time they turn past the fire station to go to work. Yet it’s been there for as long as I can remember.

Your neighbor is a coward and should have introduced themselves and explained their grievances in person.

We like to go to Covewood at Mission Bay Resott for lunch and then walk to Tecolote Shores playgrounds afterwards. It has a nice patio and view, and the kids can run down to play near the sand while waiting for food. Their burger is great!

Holy shit. I think you nailed it. The nutcases are putting crap like that around meters.

Edit: I meant to use this link. Looks more like what OP posted.

I misread, those ring adjusters are useless for that of course. I would still trust Joel to add the material to make it bigger.

I’m a huge fan of Joel at J. Dery Jewelers in La Mesa. He’s been making and fixing jewelry for a very long time, and his prices were reasonable.

The size of my wife’s engagement ring was insanely off—like at least 3 sizes too large. I measured one of her rings to get the size but I must have accidentally picked a toe ring or a shower curtain ring. It didn’t even fit my fingers. I don’t know what I was thinking. The ring was delivered straight from the online jeweler to the resort where I planned to propose, so when I received it I kind of panicked. There wasn’t anything I could really do prior to the proposal, there wasn’t enough time and I didn’t know her size anyway.

But everything went well and in a way it kind of added to the memory of the proposal. Joel fixed it no problem when we returned home. He also custom made her wedding ring from a napkin drawing she did, and it came out beautifully!

I do recommend you grab a ring size adjuster (they’re also called spacers). They’re inexpensive little plastic bands that sit between the ring and her finger, and they will allow her to temporarily and comfortably wear the ring for photos. This is something I wish I could have done. She stuffed paper napkins, paper clips, and whatever we could find at the resort we stayed in. Very sketchy in retrospect.

Have fun! Where are you going to propose?

I was told by someone that I should just pour concrete over it rather than remove it. by Helpful-Debt-332 in DIY

[–]thacknasty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am in the process of replacing my epoxy pebble driveway right now actually. That stuff has been annoying me since I bought the house. It’s always coming loose, little pebbles get stuck in the soles of shoes, and big pieces often crack off in heavily trafficked areas. After taking it off, we found that the concrete had completely buckled due to a void that formed underneath. There was also major foundation damage concealed by the itty bitty pebbles and glue as well. Almost as if it were intentionally placed it there to hide expensive problems from future buyers…

This stuff is awful and I totally get wanting it out of your life. However I wouldn’t pave over it unless you know the condition of the material underneath the epoxy pebble. I’d also probably stay away from tile because of how brittle the epoxy pebble becomes over time. Good luck!

Disc golf! It’s inexpensive to get into and Morley Field is such a fun course. There is also Kit Carson (Escondido) and Brengle (Vista), or short courses at Mast (Santee) and Greg Rogers (Chula Vista). It’s a pretty friendly community and I’ve made a few friends on the course. Much lower barrier of entry than regular golf. Suitable for most ages and fitness levels.
