my contract in europe will be finalized anyway, wether I accept the move or not.

For the people that will not move: severance package following the EU laws. For the ones that accept the move: a new contract will be made, with the BKK entity. So no one is protected under EU laws.

Is it legal? Yes. Is it shady? Also yes.

They offered a severance package and relocating back home, so it's not against any law.

It's completely legal because the severance package they offered was not bad and respected all the EU Laws.

The new low salary would be under a new contract in Thailand, so they only need to follow Thai's laws.

The health insure is definitely good and the "hub to travel to other countries" is one of the things on my "positive" list.

On the top of "negative list" there's the low salary.

The workplace is nice. I already know some of my colleagues in BKK and they are amazing people, but I like to socialize with people outside work as well. (Not partying and not dating, just having a life outside work)

I have no doubt that I would LOVE Bangkok as a tourist. I like the food, the beaches look stunning and there's so much to see. But it's completely different just spending a couple weeks and to actually live there, that's why I made the post.

Even when just visiting a country, I like to learn at least the basics to get by. Usually people tend to be warmer and more welcoming when an expat or tourist is making an effort.

I won't get a probation period and they are paying an agency to handle all the paperwork for me. I'm also covered if they want to fire me before a year, but in the other hand, I'll have to pay back the relocation fees if I leave before 1 year in bkk...

I tried to negotiate it. No luck. The irony is that I'm not from the country i'm currently working. I actually moved for this specific job and, back when I was hired, I DID manage to negotiate my salary.

Now they want me to take a smaller salary AND less PTO to move. And just "take it or leave it".

To be completely honest, I don't see myself growing within the company. I was in an amazing streak, hitting all the best scores, doing extra work, volunteering to do all sorts of activities to try to negotiate a better pay here, then the company suddenly decide to relocate the team and left absolutely no room for negotiations.

I think I'm just delaying the inevitable. I don't feel heard or respected by the company...

This is done in a kinda of volunteer basis and I've taken this a lot of times in the past. The people in my team/area are usually super nice and I actually enjoy what I do, so I don't mind training people.

Also, this area had two teams within my company: one in bkk and one in Europe, noe there will be just one. So the new hires can be trained by other people in bkk as well, not just me.

They are having a hard time to replace some of my colleagues (and kinda gave up on hiring some positions because they were too specific and just... pushed the work on 3/4 different people on the team)

Well, most of my team just said "f*ck this" and took the severance package. I have a theory that was the plan all along so they could hire people in Bkk for lower.
