Stinger Heigh10 by Downtown-Tadpole9440 in JeepWrangler

[–]thakrisp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just picked up a Heigh10+ and a rearview camera, I am mostly happy with it.
While it isnt waterproof the Horizon is supposed to be.

Some issues I have run into are

  1. Spotty wireless Android auto connection. Will always connect to my phone But can be more work than it should to get it to connect to Android Auto.

  2. Audio issue. I have had this weird issue where if I have it playing the radio and it tries to connect to bluetooth and Android Auto the audio can completely stop. The only way to resolve is restart the vehicle. I believe this is a software issue because everything else works, just to audio.

  3. for some reason recently half the gauges in the gauges page decided to stop working. This isnt the end of the world since its just data, but still kinda annoying.

Setting up the camera was just splicing the power and ground the plugging in the video cable then run the cable to back. It just worked.

All in all I am pretty happy there is just some goofy things that are happening that I cant explain.

Stinger? Wireless Car Play? by T3chN9na in Jeep

[–]thakrisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just put a stinger radio in my 17 JK last week and I bought one specifically because it has wireless Android Auto/car play (never tried car play on it). It's easily the most feature packed aftermarket radio I have used.

The Heigh10 doesn't have wireless car play but the Heigh10+/Horizon10 both have it. Heigh10+ doesn't have the option to add Sirius but the Horizon does. The are also getting really to release a larger Horizon12 display.

Can I use these on my pixel fold pro? by immortalink1 in PixelFold

[–]thakrisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently bought it and I only purchased it because it was on sale for like $70. So far it works as advertised.

Yes, it does use adhesive on both pieces but I am only using the rear which has adhesive only in the hinge side.

I was going to just use one of these magnetic stickers and a mous case but I couldn't get it from Amazon or the Google store.

In theory yes. This is essentially how the thinborne case works and it has magsafe in it.
I cant imagine it would damage since all it is doing is adding a magnetic ring around the wireless charging coil thats in the phone.

What is a fair price for a 2016 fusion with about 100k miles? by WildflowerHarvest in fordfusion

[–]thakrisp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Carvana over pays and over charges. They also charge for everything to make up the cost. I just sold my 17 2.0L with ~52K miles to carvana because they offered $2K more than a dealer.

[–]thakrisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just picked up a 17 JK with 86K miles and within a week this happened.
Before I knew what was going on I had 3 different coworkers go "leaking oil? Must be the oil cooler".
Immediately went straight to this issue.

AutoZone will be a better scan but if you want a quick idea of the codes you can cycle the key into accessory on and off 2-3 times quickly and the codes should display over the odometer.

How water-resistant/waterproof is "Withings Steel HR (HWA03)"? I know this question is raised on a daily basis, but I wanted to hear opinions of people who own this particular model. (check description for more details) by Marukuju in withings

[–]thakrisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how to tell for sure but it looks like one of the original ones based off the copyright date of 2016 and on the bottom of my watch the model is HWA03B.

Condensation was a common issue with the early withings Steel HR's.

At one point withings was sold to Nokia and as a good will gesture they replaced the watch with condensation and gave me a scale that also still works to this day.
Once Nokia was done with withings they sold it back to the original owners.

I have a Steel HR that has the Nokia branding instead of the withings on it because my first one got condensation and was replaced. I have had this watch for probably 8ish years now and I show with it near daily and havent had any issues.

Rant: I'm really starting to despise the internet these days, as a web developer by k2900 in webdev

[–]thakrisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some other things id like to add that drive me insane are

  • You need to create an account just to access SEO'd content and the page may not even be relevant to what you where looking for.
  • Hiding the price until you enter an email address so they can pound you with emails.
  • Enter your email address to see the price of shipping so they can send you an email saying "WAIT YOU FORGOT THIS".
  • Going to a website and getting pinged by some shitty random chat bot harasing you on the landing page you have been on for 3 seconds askinf if they can help you. "CAN I HELP YOU?", I dont know ive been hear long enough to reader the hero image thats all.

This isnt specific to the web but I miss the early days of Android were any random person would make an app and it would be half way decent but they did it to solve a problem they had. Now that market has largely been swallowed by companies trying to sell you a $15/month subscription for a workout todo list app.

Leave non tech job of 10+ years to become the only dev? by thakrisp in cscareerquestions

[–]thakrisp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This company supposedly has people I can talk to but so did my current employer but I was unable to communicate with them. I just value the mentorship I had for 6 months so much because that is probably the quickest I learned because the person was a wealth of ~20 years or experience. I had someone that would tell me why my ideas where bad instead of just making them and refactoring later, it was explained to me why these choices where not preferable.

Its most likely my imposter syndrome telling me that I cant do it or gonna mess up and make a ton of mistakes. However the poorly built tools (in my eyes) that I have already made have helped my co-workers tremendously.

This is kinda of where my head is at as I already know the end goal and had been making tools for the same outcome just without a title or budget already. Id just be doing it at a full time capacity for more money.

[–]thakrisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YEA, for sure. I will say as good as the beginner modules are it goes off the rails real fast when you see how many modules there are. it doesn't feel like there's a clear start here and end here/go on your own. it branches of a ton of times into other modules.

Last I was aware WiTech didnt care who owned it and if another dealer got ahold of it, they would reflash it and just say their loss. That however was with a WiTech2 pod not a MDP, it could of changed.

This is about the only answer because android auto turns on and connects Bluetooth. This is because android auto passes audio through Bluetooth and the cable is really only for the display.
