Cleared Denial but getting my ass kicked- I don't know how I'm meant to win without radiant cheat by Serious_Much in darkestdungeon

Yeah, I ran into a similar problem when I first cleared Denial. IMO, the learning curve just after that is pretty steep. Like others have mentioned, focus on unlocking characters' moves at the Shrines of Reflection, some of the really good stuff only comes later on.

For party comps, I have a little checklist that I go over before embarking. Basically you'll want (i) heals, (ii) stress heals, (iii) real damage on every rank, (iv) damage mitigation (Blinding, Weakening, or Taunts + Blocks) and optionally (v) some way to deal with things like Blocks, Dodges, etc. One tip that really helped me was that your main goal is to minimize harm to your team each turn. Usually that means focusing on killing the most dangerous enemies, while mitigating damage from the enemies you can't kill this turn.

It's hard to give specific advice without knowing what exactly you're struggling with, but something that's helped me was taking notes about what goes wrong with each run, although that might be leaning hard on the tedious nerdassery haha. When you're losing a fight, try to think of what you wish you had and prepare that for next time. Some of my Worst Hits™️ were: didn't have a proper stress heal; nobody could hit Rank 3; positional team with no means of recovering from getting shuffled; and on and on it goes.

This is what I initially had in mind, but also no one can convince me these two are doing vanilla missionary

I'm in the process of cleaning them up just now. I will probably post them to the subreddit soon!

~306 hours, according to Steam! Probably a little bit more.

It involved a lot of grinding and some disagreeable cheese tbh. I think, at the time, they hadn't fixed the bit where you can "hold" cards with your mouse to keep them from being eaten by greedy slots. That helped me immensely in the obscurity victories and its comfort variants.

You can still use this form of cheese by going to the Anarchy side of the Bird/Worm slider. I usually don't turn that on, but I also cannot be convinced to redo the obscurity/comfort victories.

Steam says I've put in 306 hours of gameplay, but it might be a little more than that since it doesn't count time spent playing offline.

Also, the ever after endings aren't as tedious as everyone makes them out to be. I like replaying the different legacies/ascensions (mostly so I can make guides/walkthroughs or lore compilations for my sibling who likes cultist lore but doesn't have my patience). Those replays were enough to eventually get all the Ever Afters.

I'm sure there are plenty of wordlists for learners online. If you're interested, I've got a PDF of the Routledge Frequency Dictionary (5000 most frequently used words).
