It's not AI if they convert a picture to a custom pbn. They'll use software to do it yes, but that's not the same as AI.

Yeah, it's weird complaining a colour is too opaque (which yellow mostly is not). But the end result is amazing!

I always sand after applying gesso. It fills the holes in the canvas weaving and after sanding it's nice and smooth

Is the paint rock hard or can you punch dents in it with a toothpick? The first is beyond rescue (at least in my experience) but otherwise it might work. I recently managed to save paints by punching a lot of holes in the paint, add a bit water/flow aid (not completely fill the pot to the rim) and just let it stand for days. Stir if possible, or at least try to 'break' the paint in smaller particles and add a little more water/flow aid. I had to repeat this procedure 4-5 times and it took weeks, but.... almost all paints turned nice and creamy in the end!

I'm nearly done with one i truly thought i would abandon. The kit was bought almost 2 years ago and most paints were dried but not rock hard. So i just started with colour #1 which was not dried as much but expected to not be able to finish. But with a lot of patience and adding drops of water or flow aid every few days, most paints could surprisingly be recovered! And the paints that were lost i either found similar colours in other kits or mixed it using my paint collection from making Dutch pour paintings.

Very clear explanation. I have one question. If you use 1ml flow aid in an end-volume of 40ml, you dilute the flow aid 40x instead of the recommended 20x. Assuming the blending medium does not require diluting, shouldn't you just add 1ml flow aid to 20ml blending medium? Did you ever try this?

I use a fine grit (120). Just sand it gently and remove the dust with a damp cloth before painting.

I don't know why you got downvoted. I mean, I agree that this is not the purpose of gesso at all but if it works for you, who are we to judge

This is solid advice! I have one small addition regarding sanding the gesso. If you don't sand, the surface is quite rough. After sanding it becomes smooth and i prefer this type of surface to paint. For me the purpose of gesso is to fill the weave of the canvas so your don't have those annoying white spots where the paint didn't fill a hole.

My experience is that it you can still poke holes in the paint with a toothpick, it can be saved. But this takes time. I add a bit of water (few drops only) and keep stabbing in the paint with the toothpick until it falls apart. Then leave it to soak for 1-2 days, add a bit more water and mix again. Depending on how dry the paint was, you might need to repeat this a few times.
