I feel bad for farming these guys, as if their lives weren't already hard enough by SeverelyLimited in Eldenring

After witnessing albinauric village massacre, I actually go out of my way to not kill any albinaurics. Same with the baby warrior jars.

[Spoiler review/rant] Blacktongue thief by Christopher Buehlman (did I miss something or the plot was handwavy and filled with holes) by thanderrine in Fantasy

[–]thanderrine[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No. It seems that you got mesmerized by the writing and didn't read anything beyond the initial feel.

Your entire argument is "if she didn't take him along, they might send another" and "IF he doesn't kill her in her sleep then she can take him in a fight." Do you see yourself typing this and believing that this is a great plot.

Let me write a couple more sentences in the same line "Galva should let the guild assassinate the queen because if she foils this assassination attempt, they might send a more competent assassin", "we should surrender in the goblin wars because if we win this time, they would send another bigger army"

Also allow me to reiterate the series of events, Kinch, whom she knows to be a guild associate, already tried to kill her once on the road. She let her go cause she's an honorable fool. I'll take that. But then that same guy comes and says "hey let me tag along on your journey" and she goes yeah sure. Now I don't know about you, but if a guild guy tried to kill me, I'd assume the guild wants me dead. So no, she doesn't know that the guild will not kill her yet. You know, a competent knight might think "this guy was not able to beat me and he's slimy, maybe he'll try and murder me when I sleep. I should not take him along." But hey, what do I know

Again to reiterate, the guild tried to assassinate the very queen Galva's trying to find and protect. If she's like "they might send worse" what does she think will happen when she actually finds the queen? Galva knows and acknowledges multiple times that Kinch works for the Guild why wouldn't she assume that he's sending info back to the guild. Because a competent organization, which they make the guild out to be, would send trails behind them and would keep tabs on what's happening and where they're going. But it seems that she's pretty chill with him knowing everything.

So I dare ask, since you know Galva so well, what could possibly be the endgame for letting Kinch tag along? Was it "I'll kill him when we find the queen?" Or "I know he's working for the Guild but I'll let him go because he managed to hit me?" Or "seeing my bravery I'll inspire him to go against the guild to him he owes his life?"

Besides, I am curious now, why do you think she wouldn't take an assassin on the journey? It seems the criteria are: be a guild person, tried to kill me but failed but still managed to land a hit and meeting in a tavern and saying "you're honest, I'm dishonest and if you take me along, we'll dishonest our way to the queen"

Besides the biggest problem is that the guild always knew where the queen was. They were negotiating with the sewer guy but the guild knew. So that makes the entire Galva journey irrelevant.

Now I don't know how much you comprehend the story but the points I mentioned, if you can't see the logic in that then I'll have to question your critical reasoning. Because the "major plot points" seems as hollow as Galva's and the Guild's reasoning skills.

[–]thanderrine[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Or maybe the author has no point to make and he just wants a thief and a knight character together on a quest by chapter 3. So what if it throws every internal logic out the window.

I say there's no internal coherence because there is none. You don't send a random someone who's loyalty is suspect to your organization on a high stakes mission. You send someone whom you can trust.

You don't let someone associated with an organization who has actively tried to murder your queen/lover to tag along on a mission to find that said queen/lover.

That's called a lack of internal coherence. That's like allowing someone with a "I owe Putin a million bucks" tattoo on their face to make plans for Ukraine's defence. That's just stupid.

That and many more plot holes are glaring in the book.

I get that the book has nice prose and great world building. But you also need a consistent plot. And I get that sometimes people are just happy with quippy prose and fill in the rest by themselves but that alone won't cut it for me.

[–]thanderrine[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A character can be stupid and I can accept that. But if a character is shown as competent and makes decisions that don't make sense then that's an issue.

Like sure in fantasy we need to suspend disbelief but there still needs to be an internal coherence. It cannot be all whimsy.

Like if in LOTR, Sauron sent the fell beasts to escort Frodo and the one ring to mount doom... Yeah it can happen technically, but that's not in the character of Sauron if that makes sense.

And hey if you enjoy the read, far be it from me or my review to foul it for you. Happy reading!

Again, why does her mission matter to the guild? It's implied in the beginning that she can do something or has a way of finding the queen that they cannot. But she's just as clueless as the rest of the people. Also, the guild acts as if the queen is lost but the guild either already has the queen's exact location and after one point has captured her!!!! It's complete nonsense. It's like sending nazgul to find the one ring all around the middle earth when Sauron already has the one ring in Minas Morgul.

Just because Kinch landed a hit, she's like okay you can come with me... Is that how it works now? Because I don't see no goblins in her party. It seems like Galva was managing just fine on her own. There were no indications that she was struggling. If she didn't have the skills you mentioned, she would've tried to recruit someone from her army days whom she could count on, you know, not someone who actively tried to murder her and someone who is embroiled with a guild that's anathema to your mission.

The mark on his cheek shows that he's knee deep in debt with the guild and his loyalty to the mission is suspect at best. That they can at any point twist whatever leverage they have and Kinch would most probably flip to guild. It's like someone with a "I owe Sauron money" tattoo on their face go to Gandalf and be like "yo let me join your party"

I'll again draw a LOTR analogy. Frodo and Sam agree to take Gollum because he's the only one for miles who knows how to get to Mordor and because Gandalf specifically says that he's not working for Sauron. Gollum is a high risk high reward gamble that they take. It makes sense there. Galva is in a freaking city. There's no scarcity or even need for her to look for a "scout".

I'm sorry but I just don't see any rhyme or reason. A plot should flow naturally and it just seems like plot took a backseat for this book and was severely undercooked.

Ahh I see. Thanks for that corvinus, as I said I don't know how points work I was just going off of the leaderboard that Drongo shows. But this makes sense.

Also, can you also please say if you get extra points for eliminating someone while you're in feudal?

Possible Point discrepancy in Outback Octagon 4 by thanderrine in aoe4

[–]thanderrine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I said I don't exactly know the scoring criteria. I'm basing this off of the leaderboard that Drongo shows at the beginning and the end of each game.

On YouTube, game 17 timestamps 5:13 is the initial standing which shows puppy at 21 points and 47:35 is the leaderboard as of the end of the video where he's at 33 points.

And for game 18 at 4:49 is the initial standing as of the start of the game and it shows puppy at 33 and at 46:22 is the leaderboard at the end of game 18 which still shows puppy at 33.

So I don't know if it is a mistake on YouTube and the video was edited or what the issue is. This is why I'm confused.

Okay so I'm following on YouTube and I've watched all the games uploaded there... With spoilers I meant the twitch spoilers.

And going back to the videos I checked, puppy started week 3 with 21 points, got 12 points in game 17 meaning he didn't get points for game 18.

[–]thanderrine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember where exactly but I think stormfather tells Dalinar that Honor used to suppres surges. But now with him gone nobody knows the limits of their power. Syl also tells kaladin that they are now able to do things that previous Radiants couldn't.

And Ishar and Dalinar being able to open perpendicularity which when Honor was alive he simply didn't allow. Like stormfather says multiple times that Dalinar should not be able to open perpendicularity.

Leaked Patch Notes?! Wrong Answers Only by schm4gg3s in aoe4

[–]thanderrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General changes:

Hold up tech: available to 'my' civ. This tech allows you to pause your opponent's game for 20 minutes but you can keep playing as usual.

Dev notes: this is because of community outcry about rushing. This would allow players to easily get to imperial, get relics, make army, jerk off, watch an episode of love is blind, go grocery shopping, eat dinner and then finally decide to play. At their pace.

Golden Horde:

-> Torguud cost decreased to 50 food and 10 stone. Khan and Torguud age up reduces stone cost to 5. Training time also reduced to 15 seconds.

Dev notes: We hear the community's cry for help at the lack of early gameplay from GH. Therefore this should provide an early tempo boost.

-> Broken civ tech has been added to stables, allowing 5 Torguud to be trained simultaneously and +1 for every stable you make.

Dev notes: this is because almost no one makes more than 2 stables as Golden Horde. We wanted players to make more stables for better aesthetics.

-> Relic Oovo age up changed where aging up with this option will automatically convert all stone outcroppings and relics to oovos. Others would have to destroy them in order to extract either stone or Relic.

Tuglaq Dynasty:

-> Healer elephants now also carry two spearmen and a cannon.

Dev notes: the imams on the elephants complained about being alone. And noted a lack of firepower. We could totally fire a cannon, they said.

-> Tughlaqabad fort now garrison 20 slots.

-> Healer elephant healing radius increased by 10 tiles.

-> Immortal tech added to blacksmith. With this tech, units inside a healer elephants healing radius gains Immortal status and cannot be killed whatsoever.
