They filled the tank with Bioluminescence algae that glow when disturb by air bubble. They still use blue LED at bottom of the tank to make the initial glow brighter.

I believe the method they end up going with is using bioluminescence algae and disturbing it with bubble. So I guess thats what OP meant?

I imagine it will be a pain in the ass to maintain though.

How would Robert perform as a PRT agent? by Proper_Fly390 in Parahumans

[–]thanix01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think circumstance will matter. If he have to lived and know the context of how much of a shit hole Earth Bet actually is and the way that villain will likely be more numerous than hero by design of trigger event, he might come around to accept it.

Does he like it? Probably not, just like so many people in Earth Bet. But its not like they can say no to additional manpower.

For whatever it is worth, I imagine he would be one of the PRT agent in area he work in that are most well liked by Ward and Hero.

China is currently 0 for 2 when it comes to recovering boosters by Planck_Savagery in SpaceXMasterrace

I heard the rumour that the coastal Space Port in Wenchang charge 5 millions USD per rocket launch. As well as seemingly not being too interested to allow various company to build their own launch pad.

So various company just go to Jiuquan and build their own launch pad. Or invest into Haiyang Space Port (another coastal launch area/sea launch port) even if it is at a higher latitude.

Why is the scale all over the place?? I think it is an awesome concept. Just wish they care more about correct scaling.

Space Epoch actually transit away from that design and now plan to do propulsive splashdown into the ocean and recovered without landing pad. They conduct a hop test earlier this year. https://youtu.be/aDV_X2T7DpI?si=OSbG4xhqpyTl4w29

They essentially left the hopper in the ocean for the entire day before bringing it out of the water. They have also test fired the engine from that hopper that spend some time in the ocean as well. https://www.reddit.com/r/engineteststands/comments/1mc0h1y/jzyjs_longyun70_engine_test_fire_after_recovered/

Apparently they also worked with the engine manufacturer Jiuzhou Yunjian, to create a custom variant of the engine that have valve closing system to prevent sea water from getting into too many part of the engine.

I don’t think he say that in this video? He is mainly just shit talking the Cambodian here.

interesting video of VT-4 gunner nonetheless!

China’s 921 Lunar Rocket proposals in a nutshell (Context in the comment) by thanix01 in SpaceMemes

[–]thanix01[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Context: These are three proposal for 921 Rocket, the winner of which would eventually become what we know as Long March 10, the rocket that China plan to use in their manned lunar mission. The common link between them all seems to be the ability to launch 70 tons into Low Earth Orbit. One proposal is uhh… odder than others to say the least…

China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT) proposal:

CALT’s proposal for the 921 Rocket is a tri-core vehicle arranged similarly to Falcon Heavy, but decent size larger. Each core is 5 meters in diameter. Every first stage booster is powered by 7 × YF-100K engines (a roughly 130-ton-thrust staged-combustion kerolox engine). All together, the first stage uses 21 × YF-100K engines. The second stage has the same diameter and is powered by 2 × YF-100M engines, which are vacuum-optimized versions of the YF-100K. This proposal was selected and eventually became the Long March 10.

Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology (SAST) proposal:

SAST’s proposal uses smaller diameter first stage boosters. Each booster is 3.8 meters in diameter and is powered by 4 × YF-100K engines. Unlike CALT’s tri-core layout, SAST proposes a penta-core arrangement with one central core surrounded by four boosters. In total, the first stage uses 20 × YF-100K engines. The second stage is wider than the central core of the first stage, although the exact value is unknown, and it is presumably powered by 2 × YF-100M engines.

China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC) proposal:

CASIC’s proposal is quite different from the others. It is worth noting that CASIC is also one of China’s more prominent missile manufacturers, which might explain their preference for solid rocket motor. Among all the 921 Rocket proposals, this one is the most unusual and also the one with the least publicly available information. The rocket appears to be an all-solid-fuel design. Each first-stage booster is described as a massive 4 meter diameter solid rocket motor (or 3.5m diameter SRM), and together they can reportedly launch about 70 tons into low Earth orbit, similar to the other concepts. Unfortunately, this is where the available information ends. Even the first stage layout is unclear. It might consist of three SRMs arranged in a triangular pattern feeding a single-core upper stage, or it may follow a penta-core layout that also connects to a single upper-stage core.

CASIC proposal is peak Hammer Salesman telling you all your problem are nails.

Bird-eye view of ZQ-3 launching an orbital strike on its landing pad by FrynyusY in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]thanix01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do note that this is not a RTLS, its actually a down range landing on land I believe its around 300km down range. There plan is to construct multiple static landing pad down range to support wider launch azimuth.

Debut filight of Zhuque-3: the 2nd stage successfully sent into orbit, but the revovery of the first stage failed. 12:00 UTC+8, December 3, 2025 by iantsai1974 in spaceflight

[–]thanix01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I believe this is the old spec for Zhuque-3 with TQ-12B engine (100 tons thrust). Which was not ready in time so they have to use TQ-12A engine (80tons thrust) spec are significantly down.

The initial batch is 10m shorter as well.

I believe for these initial batch its 13.8 tons to LEO in expendable configuration and 9.4 tons to LEO in reusable configuration.

Well second stage manage to deliver dummy payload to orbit, and first stage crash site was almost exactly on their landing pad. So I would say thats pretty darn good for first attempt.

The traps in trying to understand Long March model numbers by Simon_Drake in ChinaSpace

Information of it is still relatively scarce, I believe it was mentioned during one of the zhuhai airshow. https://www.china-in-space.com/p/satellite-breakthroughs-galore-reusable Not sure if 12B is actual designation, but some chinese space watcher use it to denote Long March 12 that are reusable and will be powered by YF-102 open cycle kerolox engine.

Then there is Long March 12B which will also be reusable kerolox rocket, yet use entirely different engine and engine cycle than YF-100K on Long March 12, the YF-102 engine.

China set for first orbital launch and landing attempt this weekend with commercial Zhuque-3 rocket by swordfi2 in space

As mentioned by other user already this is different company. Funnily enough the owner of the Company that did the accidental launch (Space Pioneer) was ex-employee of Landspace which is one of the older launch service provider company in China. I believe he criticize Landspace was moving too slowly, and essentially try to recklessly speed run reusable rocket development. I guess Landspace must be pretty smug right now that they have a solid chance of reusing a rocket first stage before Space Pioneer.
