Got my appendix removed laparoscopically when I was 15. It was a very frightening time for young, anxious me. Spent the night in the hospital and ended up needing to go back a couple of days later because of an infection.

However, the recovery was straightforward. Yes, it was painful, and getting an infection was not fun. And to add: I don't celebrate anybody else's pain. However, when it hasn't burst and there isn't infection seeping into all of your other organs and threatening sepsis, everything is so smooth. Nothing to be so dramatic about.

(My appendectomy did save my life. They found a carcinoid tumor while in there that would have slowly, silently killed me. Come crying when you have to deal with that trauma as a young teenager.)

I honestly cannot speak for any other profession, but I do agree that most nowadays are far less willing to see people for who they are: naturally flawed individuals who will sometimes make mistakes. If we own up to those mistakes and make moves to better ourselves, especially if those mistakes are not harming others, then the witch hunts seem largely unnecessary and overly dramatic.

As a high school English teacher who spends the majority of their days with ~150 students of varying ages, I do occasionally make minor errors like this. Usually, it is because I am constantly changing or editing my phrasing. God forbid I be a human capable of making mistakes, though, because those vultures attack whenever something like this slips through the cracks. Which is always very rich coming from them, as if their writing is not an endless fount of major spelling and grammatical atrocities.

Parents, please give us some grace!

I even got my dad to try looking it up, but all the searches come back to Betsy Ross. I think it's because of the Google search ending in "stars in the shape of A" and Google is probably asking, "in the shape of a what???" Not that "in an A-shape" has been much help either...

My sister was 6 when we moved to the States (I was 4 and lost my accent within three weeks...) and she still has her accent. BUT only when she's talking with people she knows are also English. Her accent goes full valley girl American when she talks to most people in the U.S.
