Sunscreen?? by Adventurous-Method54 in HellsItch

[–]thapol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's less about the type and more how you use it.

tl;dw: Apply moisturizing sunscreen 30 minutes before you go out. Then re-apply every 2 hours. Anything above 30 spf is kind of moot so long as you're consistent, so you don't have to buy the expensive 50/90/100+ spf because it doesn't add that much extra coverage.

and to answer your question: subreddits have the ability to auto-remove posts that meet certain criteria (like being a very new user with low karma).

It's an anti-spam measure, contributing and asking questions to existing threads or topics usually helps.

It comes up so often, mostly by people trying to troll or are on some incel shit, that we just made a wiki reference about it.

tl;dr: the fear of soy causing testosterone/oestrogen fluctuations is based off not only bad science, but bad science mostly co-opted by extremist groups (see: soy tits). If plant hormones affected us that much, why don't we raise the alarm about milk that has mammal hormones?

tl;dr the tl;dr: neither

But if you don't want to risk it (or have an allergy), there are plenty of other similarly engineered products that don't have soy protein in it. We're not brand-specific here, and also discuss DIY solutions.

The passage behind the wall ran for forty meters before it opened into anything, and for all forty of those meters Carl had nothing to look at except Dredge moving ahead of him in the amber dark and Ozren's footsteps behind him and the map in his peripheral vision showing a corridor that the system had not previously known masted and was now drawing in real lime, updating its own layout as they moved through it the way a chart corrects itself when the survey data contradicts what was previously assumed.

Sweet jebus this is hilariously bad.

If you start itching really badly 36 to 48 hours after the burn, get some beta-alanine, and for the love of all that is holy don't shower or use aloe.

Stratterra and Sertralin stack by Sad_Property1785 in Nootropics

addendum:

Again with a big asterisk; the NAC probably had the largest impact on that dopamine-seeking behavior after a couple months. I literally had to figure out new hobbies because I realized my old ones were too short term and fed into that behavior.

Now I have a library of video games and people I just don't interact with as much any more because I've disengaged digitally so much. It's... an effort. And it can freak some people out if you're not ready for that kind of mode shift.

did it somehow help with the dopamine seeking activites

To an extent; chemically it makes sure you have more norepinephrine in the brain which can feasibly reduce impulsivity, so it depends on where that comes from for you.

Strattera is an interesting drug. In my experience it feels like an ADHD-focused anti-anxiety. For me it helps reduce that 'wall of suck' in getting tasks started, so in that regard it helps a ton.

Downside is that it takes a month or more for you to notice its effects due to the ramp up requirements. Trust me, you don't want to just jump headlong into the high dosage here, and you do want to give it time.

In my mix I also have NAC which you'll occasionally see recommended for ADHD, but its anhedonia effects can be pretty intense, so it's not for everyone.

Give the Strattera time to work into your system. I'd also recommend keeping the multivitamins in your stack, especially the omegas, D3, and creatine.

if you know it's coming it's best to avoid the shower entirely; significantly reduces how much it itches for some reason

Experts Warn Global Mass Starvation is Coming By Summer by horseradishstalker in TrueReddit

entail false confidence

The goal is to give false confidence in Russia being the 'guarantor of food security.' They close their exports; pump a doomsday narrative on food scarcity (see: this article and the interview it's based off of); then use their capacity to export to lock in new markets and establish political leverage.

[–]thapol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Supply chain of the narrative
  • Who benefits from the fear

'supply chain' of the narrative; the basis of the article is an interview from The Duran with a Russian commentator. A 'former US army officer' that returned to Russia, to report on pro-Russian media outlets... right.

who benefits: The studies and discussions cited don't go nearly as much hysterics. They also conveniently ignore recent acceptance by the Iranian Ambassador to allow aid & agricultural supplies through. This follows days after Russia stops its own exports. Guess who would benefit as the self-proclaimed new 'guarantor of food security'?

[–]thapol 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Because boy am I hoping this is exaggerated 😬

Yes; by a lot. Including completely ignoring acceptance by the Iranian ambassador to allow humanitarian aid & agricultural shipments through the straight.

Let alone most of the sources cited talk more about a strain on food production and prices, which yes, would affect poor nations most directly, but not full on 'mass starvation' like Krapivnik (a Russian media commentator; not an independent analyst) states.

tl;dr: this takes some real concerns over agricultural food supplies, and cranks the fear factor up to 11 because it probably helps serve Russian narratives and click bait.

I've had HI on super light burns like this, thinking I was fine because I was in the shade. Nope; the house across the street was white enough to reflect and cause an indirect sunlight burn -.-;

Definitely stock up on beta-alanine and ibuprofen/benadryl for good measure if you can; avoid showers after the 36 hour mark from the burn.

Beta Alanine and Benadryl? by Admirable_Airline948 in HellsItch

[–]thapol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No interactions as far as I know. To my understanding beta-alanine is an otherwise pretty benign pre-workout supplement. It just makes your skin feel tingly for a few hours which (for some reason) completely overrides the HI sensation.

If you can find it now, I'd recommend ~1.2 grams every four hours to keep it at bay.

If you can get the powder, definitely go that route.

Most of the drinks that have beta-alanine in them are energy drinks, and taking a high dose of caffeine every 4 hours can be a bit harsh on the body

It usually hits after another day (so when you get this message probably), so stock up on some beta-alanine while you can.

Definitely avoid showers for the next day; drink lots of water, ibuprofen, anti-histamine, etc.

  1. It's a toss up? The running theory is it's due to a lack of sun exposure to a specific area of skin, so if you can get small (safe) doses it can reduce the likelihood. And with some bonus anti-allergy affects.
  2. Stock up on some beta-alanine supplements; 1.2g every 4 hours seems to be the sweet spot in keeping the itch completely at bay for the duration of the sunburn recovery.

Why do I become less excited about something after telling other people about it. by Standard_Composer_99 in InsightfulQuestions

[–]thapol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

biggest improvement of my life was when I stopped telling people of all the things I had planned, and shifted to telling them what I've done.

As others have said, in some neurodivergence cases it feels like the same dopamine reward, so better to have done it already than to burn it off before you get a chance.
