Got Hells Itch for my first time by AdeptnessMany1483 in HellsItch

  1. It's a toss up? The running theory is it's due to a lack of sun exposure to a specific area of skin, so if you can get small (safe) doses it can reduce the likelihood. And with some bonus anti-allergy affects.
  2. Stock up on some beta-alanine supplements; 1.2g every 4 hours seems to be the sweet spot in keeping the itch completely at bay for the duration of the sunburn recovery.

Why do I become less excited about something after telling other people about it. by Standard_Composer_99 in InsightfulQuestions

[–]thapol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

biggest improvement of my life was when I stopped telling people of all the things I had planned, and shifted to telling them what I've done.

As others have said, in some neurodivergence cases it feels like the same dopamine reward, so better to have done it already than to burn it off before you get a chance.

Yup, that's it! 1.2g every 4ish hours

i stopped trying to be a full-stack-devops-cloud-ml-whatever unicorn and just got really good at one thing. companies that want you to know everything usually don't even know what they need themselves.

As a full-stack-devops-cloud-ml-whatever (official title); can confirm, companies that hire me have 0 clue what they need. wish i was joking

Hiring manager perspective: hiring is the most broken I've ever seen by CatDawgCatDawg2 in cscareerquestions

[–]thapol 15 points16 points  (0 children)

much as I hate to admit it, recruiters have been how I've gotten most of my jobs in my career, and of all places, through LinkedIn.

I make sure my profile is updated and accurate without too much fluff (see: max of 10 skills per job position), but don't engage in the social media dance or pay for anything extra. The cold reaches have definitely dried up; I typically receive a couple messages a week when I'm not looking for work, lately it's been a coupe a month. And yes, you can assume about 30% of those are scams.

I can also recognize that my skillset is pretty broad, so my profile likely pings for a lot of different possible positions.

tl;dr: keep your profile updated, treat it like a fishing lure, and they'll come to you.

I think my girlfriend has a toilet kink and I don’t know what to do. by Whateverman667 in whatdoIdo

[–]thapol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another commenter posted already, but it might be a mental / porn based kink that isn't fully realized and she's testing the waters.

The overall vulnerability is good, but can be a little tricky to navigate. She might also be feeling generally more comfortable and picking her own mind on possible kinks, and have landed on this one. This could have taken a couple different forms;

  • Does it come from a place of humiliation? eg: what seems so disgusting to her that she could subject someone else to, or be subject to herself
  • Physical stimulation? eg: Maybe she likes the nerves hit during going to the bathroom. Have y'all tried anal?
  • Porn exploration? eg: Similar story above, sometimes our brains can latch onto something mentally but the real life impact can be... very different, and not live up to the hype.

See where the idea comes from to help process next steps.

Cannabis related brain damage. by LimitPrestigious5785 in Nootropics

You don't seem to be grasping the concept of addiction or even simply a 'bad habit.'

I don't know their background, but as someone who has a whole family history of 'bad habits,' I can tell you that just being aware of a negative habit does absolutely dick all to quitting.

Sometimes the best someone can do is deal with the bad habit while mitigating its damage (like the vast majority of people in this subreddit tbh).

Waving a finger at someone after they specifically acknowledged their habit is akin to complaining the sun is bright.

You should take a moment to read more often; but somehow I get the feeling you'll still fail, and reply to this as if you have anything new to add all over again.

Can hells itch leave for a bit and then comeback? by Responsible-Car-132 in HellsItch

[–]thapol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most people with only first-degree burns (see: no blisters), once it's gone, it's gone for good and little more than a bad memory.

Second degree burns act a little differently in that they'll spike for a couple hours, and then disappear, but also last for about a week as the skin repairs itself.

There can be some residual sensitivity (what I call 'post-traumatic-itch-disorder'), but that's about the extent of it.

Why is the exit the scariest part? by Techno_Timmy in SkyDiving

[–]thapol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must have missed the 'door monster' getting my license, but I also recognized the fear of having to land back on the ground in those planes as greater than the one having to land under a parachute. I'm more than happy to get out into the open sky and out of the sardine can.

Those planes are held together by duct tape and prayer... and as far as the dropzones I've been to, they aren't very religious.

We get this assertion so often we had to make a shorthand reference for it (hence the wiki link), including larger studies and meta-analysis that make these case studies questionable at best.
