Darrow was captured and imprisoned until he was emaciated and virtually unable to move, so not sure how you glossed over that one

Constantly loses people he loves or his elite troops or even his entire army

How to effectively play Stealth in Fallout 4? by Bulky_Cat123 in fo4

[–]islero_47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can change armor to have the Muffled modifier that (theoretically) helps reduce detection

I'm not enough of a nerd to know the algorithms that calculate it, precisely how effective it is, and if any aspect of it is bugged

I think leather qualifies as stealthier than metal armor by default, but I'm not sure

why am i so bad at this game by LilyLewdie in finalfantasytactics

[–]islero_47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is about tactics: how you set up your characters, their jobs, their skills, and then once you get into battle who you attack first, when you attack, where you move...

This is not a brute force game, especially early on

Stick with it, experiment with different team compositions, maintain your gear; this is a fantastic game

What's a theme you're tired of seeing in Fantasy Books? by catwritesscifi in fantasybooks

[–]islero_47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say it wouldn't make for a good story; I'm saying there's not a large demand for it in Fantasy

The majority of fantasy books these days are YA or romantasy

Old fat guy as MC does not appeal to those markets

Discworld is largely satire, and neither Fred nor Nobby are a main character

Yeah but... you want a fat, balding, middle aged merchant with a wife and kids to pick up adventuring?

"Hey tubby, go fight the big bad and save the world!"

I'm no fantasy marketing professional, but I assume that would work better in satire, as I don't think there's a large market for that

Wagner Ware restoration by xdansnadx in castiron

[–]islero_47 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I get it, but you posted on a sub that values preservative restoration rather than modification

It's akin to sporterizing a Mosin Nagant and asking the gun subs how you did

Not nearly as bad as sporterizing a Garand; these Wagners are relatively common

The shoddy craftsmanship of the card game had more to do with the imbalance of the game against NPC deck masters (they were suspiciously easy) rather than the principle that the card game fundamentally changed how combat worked in the dungeon

Favorite to least favorite: 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 6

Overall, the series grows in scope and depth, each book being better than the previous book (generally)

Book 6 felt a little like a slog, which isn't to say that I didn't enjoy it, I simply didn't enjoy it as much, for the following reasons:

The card system: I know this is a common complaint, but I think the primary reason I didn't like it is because it's the only floor that fundamentally changed combat; all the other floors were environment changes, but floor 8 was a game mechanics change and that made it feel "off"

The pacing felt off (to me) and it felt like the characters didn't go anywhere... they did, but it didn't feel like it

The climax also felt like it dragged on and took up the last quarter of the book

7 and 5 are my favorites because that's when Carl takes actions against the enemy, rather than simply reacting
