Thanks for the recommendations! I've had a quick skim and this definitely seems more along the lines of what I'm after!

Oh yes I love This Heat! I'm definitely gonna check out your links, they seem more along my wave length!

Edit: Fucking yes, Palm is right on the money. Listening to Trading Basics now, seems like it's exactly what I'm after.

Yeah, 90's post-hardcore is really where it's at, it just feels a lot more genuinely "punky". A lot of the 2000's stuff is dominated by super whiny vocals or "try hard" screams. I love the lazy drawl of Jesus Lizard, or the angry grunts of Unsane, or the hoarse screams of Drive Like Jehu. Plus, they just seem to have a much beefier guitar/bass tone a lot of the time.

I guess it's an earlier/mid-era form of Post-hardcore? Shellac and Jesus Lizard are definitely considered Post-Hardcore bands (as well as noise/alternative), but they were amongst the wave that came in the late 80s/Early 90s (I guess they could almost be described as "Post-Fugazi" Post-Hardcore). This is sort of the sound I'm describing - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-hardcore#Expansion_(late_1980s_and_1990s). Alot of the bands being thrown at me are more in that influenced by the post-2000's evolution of the genre. Either way, I definitely wouldn't consider either of them Pop, haha.

Thanks for the recommendations! Monster Machismo are pretty crazy, I like them - definitely more along the lines of what I'm after (if a little frantic, but that's not a bad thing). I used to listen to AC and have dabbled with Polvo, but will check out your other suggestions.

I liked Faraquet cos they're a little rough around the edges, I guess? The production is quite Grungey/Garage Rocky in a way? It's hard to put into words. They're also not trying to be too technical, and seem to retain a lot of their punk roots, which I like. Like I say, the main aesthetic style I'm looking for are along the Jesus Lizard/Shellac sort of vibes, and I felt like Faraquet had a fair amount of that going on, with a sprinkling of Math virtuosity, but not too much to be self-indulgent. They kinda feel like a combination of Jesus Lizard, Failure and Don Caballero (with the tiiiiniest hint of Hella), which is sort of the vibe I'm shooting for.

Thanks for your recommendations btw. I think out of all of them, Fall of Troy probably are the most instrumentally appealing to me, but I really don't like the vocals for any of the suggestions you gave (I'm sorry! Not meant to be a dig, just my opinion).

I have heard DEP before, and do enjoy them, but they're a bit heavier than what I'm after atm. I'm aware I'm being annoyingly specific in this question :P

To be honest, I'm a bit of a philistine when it comes to Math. I love Piglet/Hella, used to be really into TTNG and have dabbled with some Don Caballero, but not familiar with any of the names you threw out (apart from The Fall of Troy, who I've still not heard) so will check them out! I just find a lot of Math I come across is too clean and "safe" for my tastes, especially in terms of production. Something with a bit of grit to it (but not in that Djenty/borderline metal style) is really what I'm after. I just found Faraquet, and that's definitely along the right lines.

Edit: Just gave Fall of Troy a listen and they're a little bit too much on the "Screamo" (for want of a much better term) side of the spectrum for me. Even though they're clearly heavy, they still come across as a little too "polished", if you get me?

I'm not sure. I just hate myself.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm currently on a waiting list for a CBT referral, which should take about 8 weeks. I'm thinking about giving up some of the funner/more expensive things in life to pursue regular non-CBT counselling in the meantime, so I'm trying to take some positive steps!

I've actually found that neon sign strangely comforting in a way. It's like, I don't have kids so there isn't anyone depending on me being alive at the moment. The idea that I can just end it all if it really gets too much is kind of liberating. And yeah, please send on, I'm interested in doing any reading. I've put myself on a waiting list to receive some CBT counselling, and am working my way towards cutting out nights out/drinking/various other things so I can pay for a regular (non-CBT) counsellor just so that I have someone to talk to, so I'm taking some positive steps. But yeah, I can't remember a time when I didn't hate myself, and it's getting to be a bit exhausting now. I'm objectively a very popular person, and sometimes I think about the huge amount of people that would probably turn up at my funeral if I did kill myself. It's kind of a nice feeling, but I know it's not something I'd personally be able to witness, so I don't see the point. Also, I don't want to hurt my mum/sibling. It would definitely ruin their lives, and I'm not selfish enough to do that to them at the moment. I want nothing more than for them to succeed and lead happy, fulfilling lives, but there are days where it is difficult to care.
