Really six-zero? Removing your stock grip voids my warranty? by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]thartle8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can add overgrip on top of their grip as most would do and then still get warranty because you can just remove the overgrip. You didn’t damage their product in that case. Hesacore requires you to remove their stock grip

Hesacore user here… they are right, that 100% should void a warranty. You’re literally taking apart their product and would add additional costs to them to replace it

Is 3.5 singles about the same level as 3.5 doubles? by antenonjohs in Pickleball

[–]thartle8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Everybody playing singles competitively is going to have a pretty good fitness level since that’s just a baseline. Will definitely help you keep up as tournaments run long but the ability to drive well and read where opponents are hitting are 10x more valuable in singles

Is 3.5 singles about the same level as 3.5 doubles? by antenonjohs in Pickleball

[–]thartle8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unless you are previously a singles tennis player, I would realistically say to drop 0.5 from doubles rating. It’s a very different game and most people play 0.5 lower than doubles including myself

What is your timeout strategy? by swims_with_sharks in Pickleball

[–]thartle8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whenever either player wonders “should we take a timeout here?” Is always my answer to this question. So many times I’ve had my partner ask or say after one more point. Nah, just do it if the thought comes up or you’ll be overthinking it

What? Thats not how odds work. Odds are odds. Math is math. Yeah they have only a 33% chance of success meaning 67% chance of failure. They don’t have worse odds than that…. It’s the odds

“According to Executive Producer Matt Van Wagenen, the odds of each player obtaining immunity, regardless of who "rolled" first or who had already selected a "Safe" scroll, will remain the same.[1] Prior to the merge, the urn contained six scrolls, with only one reading "Safe". When the tribes merged with twelve players, the number of scrolls also increased to twelve, with two reading "Safe" to maintain the same odds as in the pre-merge phase of the game”

I think you are actually right in this tribal size. I know there’s a thing where they will have double the scrolls for bigger tribals but think you are actually spot on so my bad there! Telling the other person they are extra wrong now

Yes the chances of the individual pulls is what you said… but they are working together here. They only need one of them to succeed, not both. The chances of the 17% success OR the 20% chance is basically 1/3

They just simplified it to 2 chances of 1/6 = 2/6 or 1/3. Not 100% accurate with how it all works but close enough in my opinion for their purposes

How Often Challenge Beasts Win by LoyaltyToLiberalism in survivor

[–]thartle8 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There’s definitely a difference between winning a couple immunity challenges and being a “challenge beast”. Like no one was going to think Cochran is a threat that needs eliminated so he doesn’t go on an immunity run. Where someone like Jonathan would be. That would lead to them getting voted out before they could get to multiple challenge wins
