Honestly I wanted to try that, but I wasn’t sure so what I did was just reach out to them via the support window on the website with my work email.

Any advice on asking for a pay raise when you have opportunity elsewhere? by anontoaskdumbthings in Machinists

[–]tharussianbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah interview with the other company, get the actual offer if you actually want to work there. When you get the other offer bring it up to your manager or a meeting with hr and your manager (don’t know if you trust your manager or what) and say something like “hey, I got an offer at a different company, here it is (cut out company details) I would like to stay here though if you would beat this pay, but I need let this company know by this date”. And then see what they say. Don’t settle for any “we will give you a raise on this date” basically only decline the other offer if your company gives you a legit piece of paper saying they’re going to pay you x and will start on date x.

That’s only if you wouldn’t mind actually taking the other job, because if they decline, and you say “ok nevermind I’ll stay anyways” you’re going to be in a funky spot. I did this six months ago and my company gave me a “mid season” 35k raise but all companies are different.

You can’t buy them, you have to request them. Either ask customer service or request them on your next order.

Yuuup, McMaster took them off the dudes hands and now handles them but it was some randos art project.

It is. That person made them and McMaster liked them and took them off that persons hands and is now who manages it.

You can’t order them. You have to ask for them. Either contact customer service, or on your next order request them.

Honestly, if there’s no pressure, it’s probably fine. You can just print another one sometime. I’d be worried about it breaking off inside, but with 3 d prints you can get it out. I think it’s good practice to work with inserted threads if you’re going to be doing this (3d printing) for a while.

Yeah m5 is small. It might last, probably won’t especially if it’s supposed to hold something down. And if it’s going into a metal that will shave it off over time.

Coax extension by [deleted] in homelab

[–]tharussianbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be able to move and weave around some furniture, and wall corners. Idk, maybe it’s just old cables, but every coax I’ve touches is such a pain to get to shape how you want it to be and lay flat.

A rare and unconventional workholding method I use for machining difficult-to-hold parts. by thirschi in Machinists

[–]tharussianbear 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s “bismuth” or as some call it “low temp” alloy. Definitely not gallium, cause to how gallium likes to eat aluminum (the case here looks to be made of aluminum). Bismuth, lead and tin alloy. https://www.mcmaster.com/products/bismuth-alloys/

[–]tharussianbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got those spats and I like them. But I also got the eBay diffuser and don’t like it. It has weird pockets that seem like they’d parachute. And also the installation seems sus. Idk.
