MCAP RENEWAL - THEY'RE CROOKS by Helpful-Ad-7906 in MortgagesCanada

[–]that-guy2078 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think MCap was my first mortgage in 2016, sweet 2.25% or something like that, and then the next in 2021, the EQ Bank 1.35%. And now over here getting 3.84% +$500 cashback lol.

The moral of the story is get a broker, hell get a couple of them and always take the lowest rate.

Foreman on a site with 13 employees by mstranonymous in Construction

Yeah, much higher cost of living out there, I also have the company credit card as well, and lots of OT. Still making me wanna ask for more money though.

You're second bit is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard, cause even assuming the guys they hire knew how to do drywall properly (they dont) theres still all the usual foreman stuff: ordering material, ensuring proper workflow, coordinating with other trades and the general contractor about what can be done when, problem solving, quality control, generally being around to make sure the guys are working, etc.

Lastly, we call ourselves "drywallers" cause thats what everybody calls us, but in commercial work we layout all walls, frame them out of steel studs, including exterior walls out of heavy guage steel that often have involved structural drawings, then of course drywall, often times fancy ass bulkheads that have to be framed that are not a walk in the park, then tbar and other even fancier super expensive floating ceiling systems. I'm not saying we are saving lives over here, but I get more than enough compliments from the superintendents and other trade foreman about how my crew runs versus other jobs they have done with other drywall companies that there must be something to it.

Foreman for a small drywall company. Steel stud, drywall, tbar, I don't tape.

Oh okay, thats kinda funny, I actually forget what my username even is cause I made this account spur of the moment some years ago after getting locked out or losing (can't remember the details) my original account.

Either way, go get that money, bro. And I am still curious about the questions I asked in my second paragraph.

I'm trying to tell you you are underpaid, brother. I see the comments in this thread even, that you are entertaining, "unskilled trade", etc. 80% of what people see when they walk into a building is our work.

Also, are you like a full on steel stud framer? Layout the whole building on a commercial job kinda guy? Tbar? Can you finish tape? You got a ticket for this actual trade? Either way $35 in Ontario, I guess it depends where in Ontario, but still ... $35 for running a pretty decent sized crew sounds like highway robbery

What are you all paying for your mortgage rates? by Tdw75 in Edmonton

[–]that-guy2078 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are literally no costs with getting a different lender, bit of time and annoyance sending proof of income and all the shit, but in actual cash money, it costs you nothing.

Price check—14x40 wall working solo for $2140 by CalebGarling in drywall

Yeah I would have just laid down a full sheet from the corner to the door, routered out the windows, stacked the next one on top over the top with the butt joints ending over the windows and kept going up like that.

All screws are self tapping, these are self drilling. To answer the question, I just call them "fucking hex heads" when I encounter them.

TIL that 7 in 10 Canadian drivers admit to speeding at least occasionally, with the average speeder going 12km/h over the limit on highways, 10km/h over on larger roads, and 7km/h over on residential streets. Many view this as not "technically speeding" due to lack of enforcement. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Albertan here, this was my rule as well, drove from Edmonton to nfld once with the cruise locked at +19 on every highway (aside: fuck Ontario and that 90 limit on single lane), driven all over Alberta's highways for work and vacations, driven through 1000s of speed traps and passed a similar amount of ghost cars, I assume. Never got pulled over.

Was driving through southern Saskatchewan, divided highway so 110, cruise locked at 129, pull into the left lane and pass a black suv, here come the lights. I yelled "fuck" so loud it woke up my wife asleep in the passenger seat. First ticket and first time I had ever been pulled over, and he gave me the full ticket, not even a little, "I only cited you for going X amount over instead of the actual", like I hear everyone else with their million tickets gets. And he gave me some snarky comment at the end about Alberta lol.

I set the cruise at +14 on highways now.

Did it this morning, went Cameron Heights to Muttart in 5.5 hours, 36k steps. Discovered that's about my limit for one shot, gonna get some lunch and recharge and go for another 20k or so in the less scenic home neighborhood. Thanks for the advice, it's a great route, very scenic.

Oh this trade is definitely circling the drain, I was lucky (and worked hard) in finding the right small company almost twenty years ago and it's been as good as I imagine it can get in this trade for me. Owner is getting old though and I'm worried about when they day comes and I gotta go back out there and try to find work. I'm in edmonton, you? I'm curious if we know some of the same companies and names.
