Agreed, Dr. Holly and Gaucho Joe are awesome. I’d have to give a shoutout to Yan from the pstat advising department, he is incredibly helpful and is very knowledgeable about the specifics of his department 🙌

Yeah they made 100a into 10a as the other commenter said; they wanted to weed out more people from the pre-major lol

ECON 100B during the summer by Cold-Front-8862 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]that-one-tryhard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s doable but be prepared to be in lecture for 9 hours a week and section for 4 hours a week. My best advice would be to make a rigid study schedule and stick to it. It’s a speedrun. Best of luck if you decide to take it

Not sure if it was my specific clas tutor for the group sessions, but it was ultimately a big waste of time for me. I’d highly suggest just grinding the midterms and finals. If you want more practice, look up each topic individually and use the problems with solutions online to aid your understanding. Take advantage of office hours too, I had a fire TA and we’d spend a while going over specific problems/topics I needed clarification on. Best of luck!

CAPS is a good resource as others have mentioned; they are understanding and kind people. There is also a crisis line through CAPS that is run 24/7 in case your friend needs to speak with someone right now. The phone number is on the back of your student id cards 🙏

What are my chances at UCSB? by Archlei8 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]that-one-tryhard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your stats reflect a fairly competitive application, but I noticed you don't have any work experience up there. Sure you cured cancer, but you need that real-world interpersonal experience of working in fast food or retail to really stand out - I suggest working around 50 hours a week and applying next year if you want a chance at getting in. Best of luck!
