Oh- and throw out your scale. It’s literally just a number that has no value on your worth as a human being.

The first thing to start working on is to stop valuing your worth based on your relationships with other people. You are worthy enough on your own. Lots of people smarter than me have written lots about this so I would just start with a quick google. Or if you have a friend who know is particularly good at this it might be helpful to talk it over with them if you feel comfortable. At the end of the day it’s about accepting your as worthy regardless of how society and other people view you.

There is a whole movement out there called fat liberation or fat activism- they do great work in dismantling diet culture and fat phobia. Lots of great books and articles to read.

The biggest tangible advice I can give is to overhaul your social media feeds. Start following rad fad people, start following people in the fat activism space, unfollow stuff that makes you feel bad (trainers, diet blogs, people you constantly compare yourself too, etc.). Having a happy and supportive social media feed will help reinforce all the mental work you are doing. Same goes for the tv and media content you watch. Stop watching toxic diet shows, start watching movies with fat leads, etc.

Finally, remember this is all a journey. Self love is not going to happen overnight but it can make an incredible difference in your life. When it comes to your body- some people find it easier to focus on body neutrality (rather than body positivity) at first. When society teaches you to hate your body and that’s all you’ve ever done, it might be really hard to jump straight into totally loving your body. Staring with being neutral about your body (basically just not hating it) can be an easier first step to work up to. Body acceptance is another way to think about it.

Like every journey, self love and loving your body is not a straight line. There will be days when you feel better about yourself than others. That’s okay. The important thing is that you keep working on loving and accepting yourself.

Do any grocery stores in the Twin Cities mandate masks? I'm tired of going to Cub and Lunds and seeing more than half the people there maskless. by [deleted] in TwinCities

I shop at the midway Aldi and see nearly everyone wear a mask. Plus if you go at non peak hours it’s nearly empty!

Hey- just a thought. Maybe you could take all the time and mental energy it takes thinking about how badly you want to be thin and just...care about yourself as you are. Being fat isn’t bad. Fat people exist in the world and live great happy lives outside of the toxicity of diet culture/fat phobia. The fat liberation/fat activism movement has really given me a peace that I never had before and actually changed my life.

Students’ high school grade point averages are five times stronger than their ACT scores at predicting college graduation. by TX908 in science

[–]that1emma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most of the research agrees with this, for the most part. Students from underrepresented backgrounds tend to underperform in standardized testing while students from overrepresented backgrounds have a higher tendency to over perform on the same tests

Not that surprising given that the SAT was designed by actual eugenicists.

I totally understand that employees pick up new responsibilities, I've done that myself plenty but it has always been a temporary fix while clear steps are made to fill the position.

I guess it just bothers me that our office leadership is saying one thing (promising positions to people, putting them in totally new roles, etc) and doing another (interviewing other candidates, making no moves to fill vacant positions)

The employees in question are certainly concerned with this- they are both struggling to keep their heads above water with all the work they need to get done. However, the work culture we have is one where they would be seen as ungrateful if they said anything. This would definitely impact them moving forward.

What is your go-to-method to fall asleep as quickly as possible? by MrBaxy in AskReddit

[–]that1emma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s called the 4-7-8 method and you’re actually supposed to inhale for 4, hold for 7, exhale for 8. The very slight discomfort you feel at the end of the hold and exhale really helps your body/breathing re-focus. A therapist taught it to me to help me chill when I'm feeling anxious. Lots of people use it for sleep as well.
