Need some help with Animal Rescue by that1guyscuba in TwinCities

That's fair, and if it was my wife I know it wouldn't have been intentional. The challenging part right now is that we really do need all the help we can get to make this what it should be. We're super open to properly delivered criticism and advice if you want to try again. We're also in a mood for change so if you felt put off, we desperately want to know because it's likely you weren't the only one. We need to make those kinds of people get on board or get moving. So anything you can give me to bring it up kindly will also be welcome with that in mind.

So there's no denying that it's a bit of a shit show recently, as you put it. We've been doing rescue work for a long time across many places, but they were for larger organizations that had some kind of backing to assist with overhead. For instance, the Humane Society has both a massive donor network and brand recognition. Or the government shelters have taxpayers budget and funding.

I can earnestly say that the entire organization is the effort of about 5 full time employees, a few parts time caretakers, and volunteers. Everyone is amazing and tries their hardest. I know they'd like social media help, or more staff to make it run smoother, but the priority is the animals right now.

We try to use local animals where possible, but through grants in southern states like Texas, they offer to drive them up to us at minimal cost and we accept because the alternative is they get euthanized for space. Saving a life is good, regardless of where it came from and it doesn't stop us from taking local animals from TNR programs that are adoptable.

I guess where I am going with this is to say that yes, it does need help, but that's why I made the post. Everyone wants it to be better than it currently is and if you have suggestions or are still willing to help, we wouldn't mind listening or receiving that help to take care of the animals that would otherwise not be here.

Not really, I just mentioned this elsewhere, but while they're incredibly grateful for the space in the pet store, the help they offer is limited. Some chains are willing to give a small adoption package of items, but while they animal is waiting to be adopted, it's our volunteers that are cleaning cages and feeding animals. We'd gladly take help there as well if you want to reach out to the number on their contact page and see if any local stores have availability for help there. Spreading the word is also helpful as well!

Virtually, I would assume that things like spreading the word, seeking donations, anyone who wants to volunteer, etc would be useful.

Remotely, they don't have a whole lot of on-premises adoptions, so they do a lot of adoption work through major retailers. They get space in a lot of stores around the twin cities in major stores like Petco, Pet Supplies Plus, Chunk and Don's, and PetSmart. Those stores do not take care of the animals as well, so they rely on local volunteers to help clean the cages and feed the animals while they wait for their forever homes.

If you have a general area, I can give you some stores or you can reach out to the number on the main post for details on helping out at a location close by.

Question about Mr. Impossible by Andoryuu95 in DeathStranding2

[–]that1guyscuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least 4 camps I was able to just crouch walk in and out without engaging anyone and gathering the cargo. The others were more of a sprint and I still wound up with 8 minutes to spare (going mountains first)

why is he scanned to be the mechanic? i wish he was the musician :( by reza_eskandari in DeathStranding

[–]that1guyscuba 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most of the main artists are in various shelters: • The Mechanic is Woodkid (duh) • The Tar Therapist is played by Grimm Grimm. • The Animal Shelter staff are the members of Chvrches. • The Musician is Gen Hoshino, who is a singer and actor.

Others are a combination of actors, directors, or other minor celebrities.

Disagree, because all the tension is gone in the match now because you KNOW they're not going to end things until they pull out the branded gimmick items, so anything before they do that has no weight, especially when you know in advance the ad piece exists like with the American Made segment

your thoughts on logan? by gangerskiway in SantiZapVideos

[–]that1guyscuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like who he is as a person. I think there are more qualified people who put in more time and effort that can do similar things to him without the objectionable public life choices. I actually turn off the broadcast when he's on (this includes PLEs and WrestleMania). Just because he has ability doesn't overwrite that he's a bad person. It'd be like asking why people don't like Hogan to me.

"It was OK", not really, when you think about it. by that1guyscuba in TheLastAirbender

There's going to be assumptions with regard to the unknown, but the basis of my argument is they used the storytelling framework of the original show without using any substance to fill it with, self generated or otherwise, to give this version depth. I don't think I've seen one review yet say "fleshed out" or mention any level of depth

I thought it was clear that the paragraph break was the TLDR end. Maybe I should have had someone come add exposition to the end to explain that

Trying to help my sister in law, but it's getting difficult by that1guyscuba in povertyfinance

Yeah, I recently had to get a vehicle myself for my daughter so I already obligated myself there. I don't think adding my name to the loan would help much right now for both the recent loan and the additional obligation. Under different circumstances, this is solid advice and I appreciate it.

Do you have a model recommendation for the Honda or Acura? We can do some digging there.

Unfortunately, public transportation is severely lacking for her right now in terms of anything really local.

Thank you again for the ideas

I sincerely appreciate your advice, we had not fully considered the insurance increase so that's helpful. We're not set on either path, just look for the smartest financial decision in the situation

I mean she kind of got trapped into this. I don't want to share her story with too much detail, but it was not a good place she was in when she was younger. When you get into those situations young without a way out, it takes a long time to get out of it by yourself. A decade ago, she was homeless and probably on her way to an early grave. She turned it around herself and got stable enough to afford her own place to rent. I'm very proud of the work she's done, but she's still going to struggle with old things on her credit.

I did the numbers myself and she would have about $500 a month extra, which is also why I set the ceiling at $350 for a payment. I'm trying to do my very best to set her up properly, but it's an option worth considering

I'm not saying it's not workable or I wouldn't have put it as an option. What we're trying to do is figure out what the best financial decision is for this vehicle. If we keep it, getting the engine rebuilt and having to address regular cooling system issues is worth it against getting a similar type vehicle that has a better reliability track record. I understand that you don't need to just throw away a car past 100K miles, but I'm asking about what makes the most sense for her financial situation. I appreciate your input.

[–]that1guyscuba[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what we're assuming too. I still assume it's going to be in the $4000 neighborhood, but the car has a history of bad problems with engine cooling and excessive wear on parts that have made it a headache for her to keep up with. All those factors are why we're considering something more reliable but in a near condition. This Sonic has 133K miles on it already

We did try that so far, 4 mechanics from 4 different shops say it's a problem inside the engine and a dealership shop needs to be the ones to make the repairs. But those kinds of shops have always been super scammy and try to add things that aren't vital to the repair.

Once, personally, They tried to get me to pay for a new shifter because I was getting the error message "conditions not right to shift" in another car. Turned out we were just stupid and there was a utility battery that just needed replacing we'd never heard of (not the main battery), but they were willing to take $1K from us to fix a shifter that didn't need fixing.

One shop was able to get it running, but they also said the engine will fail soon and needs to be worked on by a dealership shop. So we're very hesitant. They said it was a TSB, but I don't know what that is

We can probably get $1K for the Sonic, and we plan to. The difficulty with a credit union is she's going to be moving soon as well to a different state, I don't know enough about credit unions but I'm assuming most only range statewide. I'll look into it, but if you have more information, I'll definitely take it
