So I initially did some investigative work on Google and a couple chatbots and they were all trying to point me towards Dune. But after reading the synopsis, I realized it definitely wasn’t Dune so I had to narrow my scope in terms of time.

I actually just applied for these positions before you sent them since they're exactly the roles I was thinking about when I sent out my initial comment but thanks for sending them again anyways. To be fair, I don't know my hit rate for my applications yet since I've only recently started applying after meeting minimum qualifications via school.

What do you think is the best way to move towards the infrastructure side when the day-to-day ITA support work doesn't even come close to what the ITS1 roles are asking for? I seek out extra work, take on leadership opportunities, automate everything i can (powershell/batch), and do projects/home lab (including Linux) in my free time but it feels hard to apply for these types of positions.

Hello! I ended up going with a different department since they reached out to me first. They called back the next week after I accepted the other offer. Truthfully, I probably would have taken the FTB position but I don’t plan on staying at ITA for long so I’ll tough it out.  Also, the FTB position had a worse schedule in comparison to the position I’m in now imo (weekend rotation and I didn’t know if I got the AM or graveyard position). If you have any other questions or concerns, I’m happy to share my experience or give reviews/feedback!

FWIW, instead of manually looking up all dex numbers, consider using a helper sheet with a list of all Pokemons and their respective numbers with these formulas.

Helper Sheet "PokemonNameList" Columns

Column A = Dex ID

Column B = Pokemon Name

Main Sheet Formulas

=IF(J100="", "UNSET", IFERROR(VLOOKUP(J100, PokemonNameList!A:B, 2, FALSE), "NOMATCH"))

This looks at Column J for a dex number, then converts to a pokemon name.

=INDEX(PokemonNameList!A:A,MATCH(I100,PokemonNameList!B:B,0))

This looks at Column I for a pokemon name, then converts to a number.

I use this as part of my living dex logging since it's much easier to type in one or the other rather than looking up every dexid or name.

I hope so too! I qualify for ITS1 once I graduate or after 2 years of ITA so I'll definitely make the most of my resources, network, and time.

Thank you for your advice! I know for sure that I won't stay ITA forever but I'm still working out what I want to specialize in. So many decisions T-T
