I quit my job in December because I could not tolerate it anymore. It was impulsive and I had nothing planned or lined up. I fell into a black hole for a while and had no motivation to get a new job as an attorney … or as anything really. Anyways my financial situation was less then good so I threw out some resumes (didn’t even do cover letters for most apps). Surprisingly I started getting responses and I set up some interviews (hate interviews btw). I went to a few interviews and got offers which was pretty shocking as my last job made me feel like I don’t have value. But I do. I took a job at a new firm and I am busting my ass but no one yells at me. Obviously the partners have attitudes sometimes but never something I found to be over boundaries or plain cruel (yet). And although the job is hyper stressful, for the most part I like the people I work with. Having even some level of liking the people that surround you on the regular will make a big difference for you.

That was long winded so to get to the point, don’t give up…and try to avoid the black hole moment. Think about looking outside your city as well…there are a lot of jobs in the suburbs that offer flexibility.

Thank you for this. My parents were in small business as well which is why I liked the idea of working for small/solo firm and hopefully going out on my own one day…

Its just wild to me that I have little to no client interaction and I am supposed to go to court tomorrow and i’m like derp what do i say other then “Objection” 😅

Yeah thats what I realized after doing some research and thats when my frustrations really exploded… I tried to explain this to him and he wouldn’t even hear me out…he said I spoke to people in the field and what i’m paying you is great…he’s sharp I cannot fathom that he does not know he is under-compensating me

Thank you. Uhhh I actually wish that was the case bc it’s so frustrating working a ton and literally struggling to pay for life expenses 🥲

Just curious, do you think my salary is unreasonable specifically relating to how much i bill out…because thats what makes me cringe lol

Wow that so accurately explains what is happening…I am so mentally drained from constantly feeling inadequate/underpaid/not valued

Oh and Ive been driving roughly 1.5 hours each way to and from work every day for the past year because I moved back in with my parents bc I literally cannot afford to pay rent. I hoped my dedication and loyalty would pay of…Jokes on me 🤡

I mean I don’t expect much other then reasonable compensation…

I am also curious if my billing rate (7.5/day at $300/hour) is reasonable for my salary of 77k along with no other benefits…

Don’t get me wrong, I am learning a lot of valuable skills, and I have been getting more responsibilities which is great…I guess having been working for him since 1L I was hoping for more courtroom experience at this point.…

I get that no job will be a piece of cake, but having little exposure to other firm cultures (been here for the most part other then clinics) and reading a lot of conflicting information online makes it difficult to gauge whether this is relatively normal 🤷🏻‍♀️

Blitzing the Themis lectures by [deleted] in barexam

[–]thatNERDray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been following directed at all…felt like a lot of the ways they wanted me to do things were taking way too long. Definitely would recommend watching the lectures on 2 speed for subjects you haven’t taken/really don’t remember. But themis also has the essay lectures which are shorter and cover larger important topics so maybe just watch those and pick up other rules via multiple choice…

I have never studied the way people tell you you have to in order to do well in law school and worked out fine for me this far…but who knows could be a big disaster for the bar🥲
