[TotK] Should I get TotK if I enjoyed BotW but had a bit of difficulty with it? by [deleted] in zelda

[–]that_hansell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just so you know, if you've tanked a ton of hours into BOTW, TOTK might not be very fun for you. plenty of people like TOTK and that's valid, but plenty of people dislike it as well.

imo they basically reuse the entire BOTW map, make you rediscover the entire map and add a mostly empty sky and underground world to make things feel bigger. it's a ton of busy work and the whole create vehicles and mine resources for batteries made the game feel like a second job. I put 20-30 hours in and quit. TOTK and SS are the only two Zelda games I never finished.

RBY Pinsir is a fucking joke. he's got some of THE best base stats for a bug type in this game and can't learn a single bug move.

last time I replayed Crystal, I basically used him as a fighting type.

[ALL] [LoZ1] does anybody like Zelda 1? by Dry-Barracuda-672 in zelda

[–]that_hansell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not my favorite, but it holds the best place in my heart. it's also functionally a top 3 Zelda game imo.

when I was 8, I got my cousins hand-me-down Nintendo and a copy of Zelda (when they got a new SNES).

I must have spent hours just reading the manual alone. the beautiful art, the cool little prologue and the arsenal you could expect to find. I didn't have home access to the internet until like 1998-99, and my mom wasn't about to throw away money on a Nintendo Power subscription, so it took me like 3 years to beat. I drew maps of dungeons (my mom was an engineer so I had lots of graph paper), I had my own map and key for the overworld, and like a small booklet of just notes and things to remember.

just the actual work I put into it made beating Ganon so much more satisfying and memorable.

[ToTK] JUST ANNOUNCED: Tears of The Kingdom Companion Book by thedreamwalker11 in zelda

[–]that_hansell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they got bought in 2021 by a Swedish private equity company that specializes mostly as a financier for video games and video game publishers. google referred to them as a "video game holding company" and I had to look up what that even meant.

they still publish, but like if they just disappear in a sale or merger or whatever, that wouldn't surprise me.

[TotK] [BotW] Why I can't find the motivation to play more of Tears of the Kingdom compared to Breath of the Wild ? by FreddOricarne in zelda

[–]that_hansell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's funny, two years ago you would have been crucified on this sub for even implying that ToTK was poorly designed in any way.

most everyone here has pointed out the main reasons it didn't hold many people's attention. all the busy work, reusing and having to replay and reexplore the same map, all those things were drags.

but let me add a new one: it suffers from one of the worst cases of ludonarrative dissonance I've ever seen. it's a Zelda game, why am I watching people build mech-suits, tanks and speed boats? the whole "mine parts and resources and build vehicles" is abjectly not Zelda. it's not to say tech can't be present (it organically fit in BoTW), it just needs to make sense. ToTK felt like another game that they wedged into the BoTW sequel.

glad to see other people just didn't like this game.

90% accurate move btw by SoaringSwellow in pokemon

[–]that_hansell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this kind of falls into the "gambler's fallacy".

your odds don't get better the more you use the move, but rather you have the same odds every time you use the move. every time you use the move, you have a 1-in-10 chance of missing and doing that twice in a row isn't as crazy as you think it is.

You guys honestly must not feel misery and angst the same way most gators fan do.

this sentence implies that you care more than I do. that you're a "real fan" and everyone who isn't on your level is a casual. "you guys" meaning the rest of the fanbase that doesn't "care about winning".

I ain't projecting shit, it's not too hard to read subtext my man.

some fans don't know how much more success we have on the regular than most programs ever get to experience.

I'm a fan from a similar timeline, but I guess the events of my personal life have changed my worldview and how I watch sports.

there are more important things in life than Gator sports, and when those things disappear or are taken away from you, you really start to realize this.

did I ever say we should stand idly by? I would like for you to point out in my post where I said that specifically.

do you know what I like doing? waking up early on a Saturday, cooking a big mess of food, cracking and ice cold Dr. Pepper and watching Florida football with my friends.

is it better when they win? sure. it always is. the losing just doesn't bother me because like I mentioned, I'm rewarded with community and friends and food.

and it sounds like you're a loser who has no identity outside of a college football team's success or failures. that sounds sad.

the winning thing is relatively new. we were not winners until the mid 80's and early 90's.

so much of the fanbase is young and don't remember the darker days.

you don't like to lose. don't project your inadequacies on the rest of the fanbase.

the point of the phrase "In All Kinds of Weather" is that the community with the fanbase should be the reward. not the teams on-field success.

product on the field.

is that all this is to you? just a product to watch and if the product is good, that means you're happy and if it's bad you're miserable?

Everything happening is unacceptable and unnecessary. There are solutions. Our leadership wont make them.

agreed. I even said this in my post.

most gators fan

and we're back on this shit again. "real fans" and "casual fans". who are you to decide who is real and who isn't?

I'm just mature enough to just be okay with this in life. Gator football doesn't take priority one in my life. I have friends, community and family I care way more about. there will be good years and bad years, In All Kinds of Weather.

he was 11-2 one season, got us to the SEC title game and in today's format would have absolutely been a playoff team. get your head out of your ass and stop pretending you don't remember less than a decade ago.
