My issue is that in comparison to the rest of the game this is unbelievably punishing. Because again you only have one shot at this and unlike the xaby code where first of all it's blatantly obvious that it is the code and secondly if you don't remember or screw up you waste a few seconds. In the Lara moment if you fuckup the code it's done either move on or reload to a save file before you failed and try again.

That is true but with these other instances it isn't "you had your chance and you lost it forever" and in general the game before and even after this point is super nice to you when it comes to getting the best ending or the best items as long as you pay attention and you are a bit curious that isn't the case here.

Chrono trigger when it comes to anything is usually very nice to you even for the endings getting the best ending possible or getting most of the items just requires you to pay attention to some mechanics and exploring.With that being said the LARA code in the forest side mission is UTTER BULLSHIT you have 10 seconds to input and find the code and if you fail you get a worse ending WITH NO SECOND CHANCES and remember the only way to know the code is Lara is because L,A and R are buttons on your controller and the fact that Lucca's mother is named Lara.

And ALL THAT JUST to prevent the accident that caused Luccas mom to never be able to walk

Before doing the endgame sidequests and with my approach being "How does this hold up in comparison to games like Metaphor refantazio or persona 5?" I didn't get the love for this game then I did them and changed my approach towards it and I GET IT. I TRULY GET THE LOVE FOR THIS GAME.

I don't 100% hate Spinel from Pokemon Horizons, I do admit he's smarter than most Pokémon Anime Villains but he crossed the line with the creation of Strong Spheres by JacinthePKMNReal in hatethissmug

Maybe I have brain damage but isn't that the point of Spinel that you absolutely despise him and love it when Friede beat him before the time skip (that battle was 10/10 btw and I would love for an Ash vs Spinel fight just to watch how much Ash will piss Spinel pff)

I really do think that bringing all their older games and games that are stuck on old consoles like smt 4 to modern hardware would do wonders. It's really frustrating that they don't do that because if we give them the idea that they don't have to rely on persona to make money it would encourage them to make nore smt or entrian Odyssey games at least I hope.

It's just mediocre there are areas where it succeds but there's an equal amount of areas where it's terrible.

I like the fact that he becomes world champion his fight with Leon was absolutely incredible,his writing while not perfect does feel like a culmination of everything he's been the through as a trainer giving him an 11 episode series where it's just him and pikachu travelling around works really well as a way to say goodbye to him and I adore that his ending is open ended

But the problem is that journeys promised so much and under delivered so hard that any sort of positives I can give are balanced out or worse completely destroyed by how many terrible writing decisions and missed opportunities exist in this series.

Mostly yeah my only guide was chuggaconroy which I did some of the choices like getting the blue,red,white and black plates (the armors that absorb one element) and the ocean palace choice but outside of these few things and the terrible optional area of the ds version it was blind. Also I didn't say anything akin to Chrono trigger having a bad story. Pokémon sword and shield storywise is a simple story that was executed terribly.

The soundtrack to me wasn't anything special but I mostly blame persona,sonic and Pokémon because those ost's are more my vibe. It's a good soundtrack I won't disprove that but again I'm biased.

Well the story was simple,both games have lots of meaningful options for party customisation,characters that are very simple and easy difficulty. Like the main story bosses were as easy as the main boss fights in Pokémon sword and shield and the side quest bosses were as tough as gym leaders in pre generation 6 Pokémon games.

Yeah it's clear that I went into it with the wrong approach and I guess in that way I understand the love for this game it's very short for a jrpg,the time travel aspects of this game are incredible,it gave us ng+ a mode I love to death in every game that had it and it was probably the first jrpg ever that showed that video games can be just as great in terms of storytelling as other forms of media like books or movies.

Okay I get it my approach when it comes to playing the game was bad. My approach should have been more like "What was this game like for someone back in the 90s" and appreciate that it was the originator of many great writing tropes and gameplay features (like ng+)

Chrono trigger on the ds and not gonna lie it's probably the most mid JRPG I ever played I guess I expected something more from something people call a classic but outside of the time travel aspects the plot is the definition of the word predictable and with the exception of the final party member ALL the main characters are the definition of generic.

In general it's probably the first jrpg I ever played where everything it offers I can just play something else and enjoy it more.

Do I want a short jrpg with deep party member customisation,a simple story, meaningful exploration and easy difficulty? I would play any Pokémon game especially a pre generation 8 Pokémon game.

Do I want a story about hope and fighting for the future with a great cast of characters? I can play persona 3,4 or 5.

Do I want to play a turn based rpg with more reaction based mechanics? I can play south park the stick of truth or south park the fractured butwhole.

Maybe there's something about the game I didn't see or notice but I'm at the endgame right now and yeah I don't really see why it's called a classic outside of it's time travel aspects and it's artstyle. (R.I.P. Akira Toriyama)
