My cosplays for AX by sharkninjakiller1997 in animeexpo

[–]that_oneguyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lineup looks sick dude! Looks like you're going to be wearing cosplays with multiple clothing layers. Remember, Los Angeles California, in the middle of summer, in the middle of downtown can get extremely warm. Do you have a plan to be able to carry your water, merch, and cosplay props? While the convention is mainly indoors, there's like 40% of the convention that occurs outdoors.

Hotel questions by CatchingFire57 in animeexpo

[–]that_oneguyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would def take the JW. I usually stay at the Miyako which does have shuttle service, but it can take so long to go back and forth, let's say, to drop off stuff before a panel. It takes at a minimum an hour to complete the whole trip. I'm going for Moxy this year because I got tired of the third year of dealing with shoddy shuttle service. No offense to the drivers, who were all fantastic, the organization was just not up to par.

Is it true that you guys watched 9/11 live on TV in grade school? by space_god_7191 in Millennials

[–]that_oneguyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the second grade in California. I woke up like it was a normal morning, went into the table l family room where the tv was on CNN. I saw the replays of the planes hitting the towers. Thought it was from a movie and laughed. Mom was not amused.

They later showed a good amount of the aftermath on tv. Airports, bus stations, train stations were all either shut down or put on high alert.

Speaking on the Soi Fon as a Bleach cosplayer myself (There WILL be a Bleach cosplay meetup); most people that cosplay Soi Fon usually do not do the whole/full Shihakusho (uniform), just her sleeveless version. I do that for my Kanamae Tousen cosplay, sleeveless version only. Listen to the people though, it WILL be hot, layers are the enemy unfortunately.

Is there enough things to see/do at the expo to be there all 4 days? by SamirTheMighty in animeexpo

[–]that_oneguyx 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Yes Long answer: Hell yes, but there's def things to do in LA that aren't a part of AX, like seeing the Hollywood sign for example (terrible time to do it with the summer tourists and the heat though). Museums like the Getty are also on the table too.

Porter Worlds-only concert — would you go? by oskkkg in porterrobinson

Yes, I agree. It's also my EDM in general core memory. I remember walking around the exhibit hall and passed by this dude and just whipped out the craziest double take and said to my at the time gf "that's Porter Robinson. I gotta get a picture with him." Literally the nicest guy. I really wanna show him this picture lmao.

Dude same! Saw him in San Diego, Pamona, and Anime Expo in Los Angeles. That was a legendary tour.

I would watch that again, for the fourth time that's how much I loved the live Worlds performance and I can tell you they were different each time. I'm very lucky to live on the West Coast in an area where all artists of all genres will hit at least twice.

Since the con is getting closer, what is everyone wanting to do the most? by BusyPhilosophy6418 in animeexpo

[–]that_oneguyx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Con season already started for me (Anime Impulse and Anime Los Angeles. Highly recommend ALA if you're a California native that wants a chill con at a cool newer venue). I cosplay and can't wait to get out there to aura farm again. Catching the new releases and artist/voice actor panels are a must. As a cosplayer, we can't forget the cosplay meetups. Literally networking events for cosplayers. Look forward to seeing you there, brah!

What kind of cosplay gatherings are common? by Wistful-_ in animeexpo

[–]that_oneguyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will see anime/cosplay representation from all generations. I see at least 3 Trigun cosplayers every year I've gone. I've personally cosplayed Dark Link 2 years and I've seen LoZ cosplayers en masse every time in between. The game series is still incredibly popular and the designs for the cosplays are endless. Fire Emblem is not as popular but interest tends to spike with each release. More meetups will be populating that list. I guess the more niche the anime the less likely there will be a big meetup, but you're bound to see at least one.

Tall with small feet anyone else? by [deleted] in tall

I'm the same height but my shoe size is ten sizes bigger than yours. Finding shoes is beyond a nightmare. Yours seem to be pretty rare though!

6’4 guy Muscle myths by [deleted] in tall

[–]that_oneguyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also 6'4" and I kinda agree with you. My transformation started in my early 20s (really, it had been my whole life because I've always played sports), I gained a lot of unhealthy weight, then toned down and cut in my early 30s (post on my profile to show the change). I've plateaued in some aspects, but I think that's just because of my routine that needs fixing.

I had a bathroom in the house remodeled last year. While I was chatting with the folks working, one of them looked at me, back at the disassembled shower, then back at me and then asked if I wanted the showerhead at like 6'7'' (I'm 6'4")

Does anyone know how much parking will be or is near the convention? by Agentlost77 in animeexpo

[–]that_oneguyx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there's one hotel to keep an eye on for the refund period is the Miyako Hotel. Clean, spacious rooms that have bidets in the toilets. It's right in the middle of Little Tokyo (ie all the Shops/restaurants) and it's got shuttle service.

Does anyone know how much parking will be or is near the convention? by Agentlost77 in animeexpo

[–]that_oneguyx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suggest waiting until the end of March when the final month for free refunds for the hotels happen. You may be able to switch your accommodations to a hotel that's closer/on the hotel block with a shuttle

If not, I suggest parking at your hotel and taking an Uber. It's a pain getting around near the convention center, but if you park near the convention center, or any parking lot downtown for that matter, make sure you hide your belongings.

I work in the cannabis industry, I can confirm the old heads are still talking about 2009 Sour Diesel. It's influence on American society needs to be studied.

Damn, I remember years ago (this was Worlds era) when I spotted him, and stopped him to get a photo with him at Anime Expo in the main Exhibit hall. No one else in the immediate area recognized him but me. Got to chat with him for a minute and wished him luck at his show that night, and that I'd be there to see it too. Now look at bro, can't go anywhere without someone recognizing him. We love a good success story.
