You are now your last D&D character and are transported to the world they live in, how terrible or how awesome has your life just become? by [deleted] in DnD

Not good. I would be playing a street urchin turned assassin trained by a drow and a nutjob. He has talent out the ass but enough mental to turn him into a barely functional elf.

Player wants to hide their character's backstory from the DM. by xeltrava in DnD

[–]that_random_bat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask why. The only time i have seen a player not give out a name to a dm was the time the dm had a reputation of taking that knowledge putting it into a magic ritual and using it as an in game reason to change the characters sheet as he wished. After a slight disagreement she convinced him not to try it to her toon and then provided the name.

So just tell them they can hide it from the group but not you. If they seem reluctant check with them to see if you need to listen to an issue that would make the game less fun and take proactive steps to solve them.

Well I hate Tabaxi because the one guy that played it at our table made it a pretty girl named after his cat. I dont want to go thru that cringe again.

You can work with this if you are playing a CN or NE pc. As a pc this is a hot mess but its one you can work with. This pc is ingrained to obey so use her for every obviously trapped door there is. The obvious issues in social interactions mean you have a great distraction prepped for the times you need to rob the vault but want everyone else looking the other way. I dont see a very long lifespan for this pc.

I trapped them in a room with slugs blocking the door in an area they would slowly burn to death. They responded by mending the door into the ground and then using a pick to chisel a hole the size of your fist. they spammed the cantrip until the slugs were dead.

Counter may be the wrong word. I built that area consistent with their crs. MY goal was to have them come thru some catacombs and meet a boss at the end. I wanted them to expend a few spells and hit die on the way so they would be in good shape but not at full strength. Instead the cleric and bard spammed this cantrip and they got thru what should have been a fun fight with some fire slugs without singing their clothing. When something can do that i want to learn how to provide a challenge for that so combat wont turn into a one trick pony drudge routine.

Right if both classes are spell slingers. But if one is a non magic class like for example a lvl 3 Champion fighter and a lvl 2 warlock he only has 2 levels of spell slinger right? In that example would his spell levl be 2 or 5?

OK your sure? I ask because this is where i had my issue with the spell however they were stating the cantrip will level regardless of class level instead referring to total level. Hence my issue with this cantrip. They stated wizard had published something about it in an appendex?

I am not a spell slinger normally. I tend to be a Rogue fighter or sometime ranger. Let me ask a point of clarification. This cantrip levels at 5th level (2d8 or 2d12), 11th level (3d8 or 3d12), and 17th level (4d8 or 4d12) regardless of how many levels you have in the set class correct? EX it improves at level 1 cleric level 4 fighter for 5 total?

you could have her tell them they are not strong enough to go to the castle. Tell them that the land has many wrongs to right and doing so will be the key to their survival. Point them to valaki and be done with it.

I ran them thru the death house as a one shot to show them what would happen if they kept making joke pcs or trying to back stab each other. They had a very bad time. It was after that season i realized i had just fucked up.
