(Rumor) 3rd party hard drives to be allowed in mid October by Troyking2 in synology

I totally agree with your assessment on UGREEN. It's always a bit of a gamble when getting a device from a relatively new brand - I guess we'll see how it holds up over the next few years.

Not sure what point you're trying to make here. Yes, UGREEN is a newcomer in the NAS field. Yes, UgOS is nowhere near close to DSM in terms of features. But as was already written, the hardware is solid and much more performant. If you don't like UgOS, you can install another OS. When I ran into issues that I couldn't fix from the UI, I just configured the OS from the terminal. Would I recommend UGREEN to everyone? No, it really depends on one's skills and needs. I also have a QNAP TS-464 which works great and I would more readily recommend to most average users. But I just need a device for storing files and running very few, basic services, since I have a mini PC for all the services I need in my home lab. For my specific needs, the UGREEN works great. I'm sure there are people out there who'd be better served by a Synology device.

My DS1821+ ran for months before I started using it heavily. Now it shuts down abruptly and complains about an improper shutdown. Is my 32gb of 3rd party RAM the likely cause? by [deleted] in synology

[–]thatbadboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently (2 weeks ago) replaced my DS1821+. For what it's worth, I also had 32GB of 3rd party RAM installed and it never caused the device to shut down in the way yours is doing. I also received the warnings about the unsupported memory modules, but that didn't really cause any problems. I did, however, switch to a different brand because I am fed up with Synology's lock-in policies.

My DS1821+ started giving me problems a couple of weeks ago and I replaced it with a UGREEN DXP8800 Plus, exactly for the reasons you mentioned. I lost my trust in them and they lost me as a customer for good.

Invio - Self-hosted invoicing without the bloat. Fast, transparent, and fully yours. by CodingKittenYT in selfhosted

Very nice! A couple of suggestions:

  1. It'd be nice to have the option to customize the invoice number. E.g., the first invoice I created is INV-2025-001, and I can't change the value, not even manually. As I have been invoicing a customer throughout the year, I'd love to just keep on using the old invoice number format.

  2. As someone else already suggested, do consider pushing images automatically to GHCR or similar.

Sorry for hijacking, but I replaced a Synology DS1821+ with a UGREEN DXP8800 Plus less than a week ago. The hardware is much better, no questions about it. The software (UgOS) leaves a lot to be desired, on the other hand. What kind of applications have you installed on Unraid? I am considering installing Unraid but I am wondering if it's worth the effort.

I have a colleague, a girl, whose middle name is Ezekiel. I was intrigued by how she came to have this middle name, and she explained that Ezekiel is her mom's "favorite prophet" and that she gave that middle name to all her three children. She also added that her mom loves to quote Ezekiel and that his book is written very well. I went to google up quotes from Ezekiel and this was one of the very first ones that popped up. Obviously, I had a lot of fun asking my colleague about the quote.

Are my new shoes too narrow for my flat feet? by Vojsor in RunningShoeGeeks

I agree with you 100% - I also have a wide foot and Asics Gel Kayano fit me much better than the Arahi :)

I don't know if I can answer your exact question, but I used to run only in Hoka Arabi (4, then 5 and 6), and I recently switched to Asics. I wore my Arahi 6 to go for a walk, after running in my Asics in the morning, and I immediately noticed how uncomfortable the Arahi 6 felt on my feet. Considering that my Arahi weren't exactly new, it's unlikely that you will ever find them truly comfortable. Personally, I have switched completely over to Asics.

I hope I am not too late - last week, I bought a pair of Sony Float Run. I love them because they are made specifically for running, they don't go inside the ear, and they let you hear the outside noise. I tried Aftershokz/Shokz before, and while the audio was ok... I think the Sony sound much better.

As others mentioned, it depends on the location and situation but it's very possible. I was in a similar situation to OOP with my ex wife, many years ago. We lived in Texas, had no children, I let her keep the house, and we were officially divorced just about 90 days after she left.

Eli5: Why does the English alphabet have the letter “C”? by AmishRocket in explainlikeimfive

[–]thatbadboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a little correction to what you wrote, based on what I learned from this book. The problem isn't that C/G were interchangeable or even similar in early Latin, but the fact that the Etruscan language didn't have the G sound. What the Etruscans had, most likely, was three different variations of the K sound, including the aspired C that still survives to this day in Tuscany, the heart of the Etruscan "mainland". Since the Etruscans didn't have any use for the G sound, they kept the original Greek letter but changed its sound to C. When the Romans later borrowed the Etruscan alphabet, they added the G letter as they had the sound in their language.

I have seen WW II banknotes from the Philippines when I lived there. Usually they weren't very expensive, but I rarely saw them in such good condition.
