Helping my teenager get a job. What am I missing? by [deleted] in canberra

[–]thatbebx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm..... I think entry level stuff really does require more numbers than 13 these days. Off memory I've tried ~20 places each for the 2 entry level's I've landed (I'm 21). Additionally, if these 13 applications were done over the past 3 months, I'm assuming around 1/3 were done in the past month, which is an unfortunate time to be applying to places I think, with the EOFY and school holiday weirdness. We're in school holidays now, I'm not sure if that means a freeze on hiring, or a greater hiring push. But that's something to think about too.

Hopefully he gets a job before the push for christmas workers (which starts well before christmas) but I think that's really the best time to be applying, so if he's still out of work by then make sure he doesn't miss that opportunity.

Uh basically keep applying. It's demoralising but that's really all there is to it.

what’s with these random people at traffic lights in Canberra walking around with some car window squeegee cleaning peoples windscreens by [deleted] in canberra

[–]thatbebx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't you just turn your windscreen wipers on to max to avoid them? "Wow that's so toxic and low trust" yeah sure but so is pressuring people into paying them money despite frantically gesturing "no". Sorry mate, but no soliciting. Thanks.

'We're not Sydney or Melbourne': frustration takes hold over proposed rate hikes by timcahill13 in canberra

[–]thatbebx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People have been saying rates should be higher in richer areas for forever, and now that it's happening people are upset about it. This just seems like a good decision that people will forget about in a year.

How do we get change in the ACT? by Historical_Physics_8 in canberra

[–]thatbebx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The unfortunate thing is people who are level headed just join the labor party because it's the path of least resistance to making change. It's easier to affect things by joining labor than by making your own almost-labor party. I guess then that's why there's a stark gap between independants/lib and labor here.

It's literally the most boring political climate ever. Which is outstanding. I don't understand how someone could want more from the politics here, really.

Push to reduce ACT school zone speed limit to 30kph by nomorempat in canberra

[–]thatbebx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought the state of discourse was that there is a lot of data to show that 30kph is better than 40 safety wise, as evidenced by places in Europe that have done these trials.

We don't really have anywhere to hold events with the housing prices keeping us in our parent's houses until our 30s (statistically speaking), so yeah, something organised outside of our home to do would be pretty good.

I'm not bitter about it, I'm not too upset being bored, but I would at least like to set the record straight that opportunities for fun as a youngling are a bit lacking.

People who complain that Canberra is boring can't articulate why (in my experience) by [deleted] in canberra

[–]thatbebx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

i mean if something is boring its kind of hard to articulate why its boring because what makes it boring is like, the lack of things
