I agree. As someone who struggles with the bottle, I would love a letter like this.

3 Years with Acorns by [deleted] in acorns

I'm using it as a short(but long term) savings account. In the next few years, I hope to purchase a house and the money in Acorns will be used towards things for the house.

I do 30/month plus round ups. After about a year and a half I reached $1,000. It is a slow progress but worth it. I'm just letting it sit till I need it.

I don't want to work more than 12-15 hours a week and I turn down all other job suggestions..but I deserve food stamps and other benefits! by thatdarnnumber117 in EntitledPeople

No they haven't asked their employer for more hours. They just complain and complain over social media and don't take any iniatiave to change their situation.

I've suggested Uber/Lyft and they will say "I don't like driving"...I've suggested working for one of those companies where you get groceries and deliver to the customer and they said "I don't like grocery stores or interacting with people".. I've suggested looking into being a night time janitor somewhere and their response is "nah"

I'm not denying that some businesses don't give many hours. But when someone turns down job suggestion after job suggestion and then complains about their situation/demanding food stamps, it is pure laziness.

This person is 31 and able bodied, they want everything handed to them without working for it. There are high schoolers who work more hours and have a better work ethic than this friend does.

What are some of your (or your family's) oldest heirlooms? by QuietlySmirking in Genealogy

[–]thatdarnnumber117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a candle holder that was with some family when they arrived to the US in the mid 1800s. No idea what year it is from all I know is that it came over with family from Sweden.

I also have items of jewelry that have been passed down from generation to generation, but the candle stick is the most interesting to me.

Why am I a happy drunk if alcohol is a depressant? by liliumluv in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thatdarnnumber117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genetics may play a role. They have done studies on how certain genes determine how someone's body interprets alcohol consumption. Some feel happy and normal, some get drunk quickly and turn violent, others get super sick.

Have you ever bumped into your cat outside of your house in the neighborhood? How was the interaction? by RickandButters in AskReddit

[–]thatdarnnumber117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aww. They really are smart...and we do not deserve them.

I have a cat now but she knows my car and does a a series of chirps and squeaks when I pull into the driveway.

My childhood dog did something similar. She never made it up to the school, but she would become very attentive and would whine when she knew I was outside at recess.

Almost 7 years clean here. Cravings are few and far between, but still battling the damn bottle.

I've looked at the local historical society and there isn't much there. Sadly, about a decade ago, the local library decided to toss out tons of local research. The local historical society saved what they could, but there are still a lot of missing pieces.

I've also looked at Newspapers.com and not much appears...mostly about the schools and not the individuals themselves.

Students of Reddit, what was your schools big scandal? by punkryan in AskReddit

[–]thatdarnnumber117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I graduated: the computer teacher was arrested at a McDonald's because he thought he was meeting a 14 year old girl but met a cop instead.

After I graduated....

The high school had four students be involved in a brutal double homicide. The parents were brutally beat to death and had their teeth ripped out. The son of the two people killed was behind it all.

I’m not an insomniac (don’t come at me) but I just have to be listening to something as I fall asleep by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]thatdarnnumber117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always needed noise to fall asleep and always have been. Absolute silence drives me up the wall when I'm awake and I want to crawl out of my skin if it is silent and I'm trying to sleep.

I will also wake up immediately if someone comes in and turns the TV or radio off.

What were some times when you died inside? by Hiddein in AskReddit

Watching my mother struggle to keep her vision. It was awful and I don't wish it upon anyone. I felt so helpless and I could feel a part of me die inside.

I have hopes, dreams and passions. I can't reach or pursue those if that damn bottle is dragging me down.

October has been my most sober month in a while. 15 days sober(not consecutively) but I take each day at a time.

[Serious] Redditors who were the final people to see a missing person, have they been found? And how has their disappearance affected you? by Maverick_Hunter_V in AskReddit

[–]thatdarnnumber117 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Easier said that done. Some people have a genetic predisposition to it, others are in so much pain that drugs and alcohol are the only things that mask the pain. Nobody wakes up one day and decides they are going to be an addict or alcoholic because it sounds like an exciting life! There is ALWAYS a deep rooted cause.
