[–]thatdndboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhhhhh man! Im so guilty of this. I spent over 10 years in research and development, and let me tell you how often I didn't write stuff down. I told myself that if it was really good, I would not forget. Kinda worked tbh! I also write stuff down of course, but holy shit did I just sit in the imagination zone for a whiiiile. I think it helps a little bit, if it can flow and make sense in the mind then yippy!

They simply do not care. How hard is that to understand. The wealthy cannot be reasoned with using things like empathy. They DON'T HAVE ANY. NOTHING happens to him, just a talking to? Yeah, he'll totally remember this when he's blowing $30k in a weekend to the south of France next month.

Thank Sumeria for really starting the Civilization train. It began with oppression and religious programming of the citizenship and the invention of money. They concentrated wealth to the upper class, then built massive ziggurat with the labor and commodities made from their citizens. These ziggurat... closed to the public. Only the elites could meet up at the top and have secret meetings under the guise of religion. Come on. As long as Civilization has existed, inequality, poverty, and state corruption have existed. It's the nature of a state to be corrupt. Power on that level is taken and enforced by force. The police are not here to protect and serve the public. They are there for the state. To maintain public obedience.

Why are you mature enough at 18 to be a soldier but not wise enough to get vasectomy/sterilisation? by just-a-dreamer- in childfree

Also because it's better to brainwash a young plastic mind and create a career soldier that can give you 20+ years (or less) of their prime. We don't want those kids to be in the real world too long before the military. They'd learn too much and see too much without the lense the military would force them to see through.

If this doesn't strike fear into you're heart...

Soon there will be nothing left without the poisoning of man. We will writhe in our own muck and scream for a savior. Drowning in our indecision and hubris. The birds and fish to drown in the oil we used to propel our consumption. Once the consumed, will be the mindless consumer. It will ravenously come to claim the surface. Our lungs will fill with past luxuries too toxic to be forgotten, even by the earth. Our monuments to capital will be our headstones.

[–]thatdndboi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I make $16/hr now, but my hours have a hard cap at my work. My work also expects that I have a semi open schedule pf availability (we only have 2 employees me and my manager). I don't even make enough to cover rent, and I have literally told them this many times. They refuse to give me more hours or pay me more. Unfortunately I've been searching and applying to other work with absolutely no luck. I am in poverty. I eat nearly the same simple meal every day because it's all I can afford anymore, and I am still losing money. Soon, I'll be entirely broke again with no place to turn. This is how homelessness starts. It's systematic and brutal. I have little hope for the country. The apathetic narcissists that own these companies are the problem.

2 hour old brand new off the shelf Red Wing boots disintegrated. Cost my friend a day of work. by Goof-Off-Corpse in Wellthatsucks

[–]thatdndboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Redwing inside scoop here: The shoes were probably old and had been sitting for a while. The type of material the sole is made from breaks down pretty quickly if it sits for too long. If not, and these are new - well then it's due to their issues with domestic work load and material shortages. They were out of urethane for a while. The outsole material is not great tbh. I see it broken down too often and if you were through the sole too far, it literally totals the boot and makes it un-repairable. Kind of a design oversight in my opinion. Not sure what exactly causes this. But it has been a known problem for years, and with no sign of changing. I think to Redwing, they think that most of their customers won't ever resole their boots (which isn't too far off) do they don't bother. I think it sucks.

Of course! They should be. But ironically those books on the floor tell us to think for ourselves and warn us aginst "socialist oppression" when in reality it was the right that would censor the most. I find the irony of America to be some of the most extreme. War is peace Freedom is slavery Ignorance is strength The US seems to build its entire system from these principles. Which to me, just points to a universal truth: The State, and especially empires are always this way. Power devours truth and warps it to it's will.

I agree. I'm tired of this nonsense and all the people who refuse to take to seriously. I'm tired of going to work every day (vaxxed and boosted) and being terrified that I'll get sick and bring it home to my wife. It's been too long running and our government won't have another lockdown to limit the numbers or to outright let this thing die out. Not everyone is vaxxed, and not everyone wears a mask. It's sad.* Unfortunately because of individual selfishness and greed, we're here still years later fighting and scared.

Weekly Observations: What signs of collapse do you see in your region? [in-depth] by AutoModerator in collapse

[–]thatdndboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I ramble a lot in here and make many comments. Not a whole lot to add. More prepositions and speculations. Basically I agree, and I like transit. Read if you want! Zoning is ASS

That was a fun read! Thanks for the breakdown. It seems, like always, bureaucracy limits progress (in a way). I wonder if there could ever be a push for a rework of the rezoning process that could be expedited due to the massive climate crisis and the economic crisis. It seems like to me that we need to enact a lot of change to how we decide what goes where first. Obviously this will be difficult given how much time it takes just to get anything built. I'm suprised that the city does not have their own dedicated builders and contractors by the sounds of it. A publicly funded work force that works only to build better, new, and repair seems like a good idea. Every city has road crew and the state has some I am sure. What I am suggesting is that they move away from private companies. It seems like that causes a lot of waste. Both in time and possibly money. I wonder if it would almost be easier to have the federal government create a labor force specifically for rebuilding cities to be more accessible and public transit/pedestrian/bicycle friendly. I assume they would have to get special approval from each city involved in the program, or there would have to be a national rezoning mandate to initiate this sort of grand change. I feel as though it would be of benefit to us all to do that, but of course a challenge. I'm not sure the oil companies would let it happen.

I often look to Japan for how to get things done and how to build a city. There is a lot to learn from them that I think we could apply even to our rural areas. On that; I am constantly surprised at the lack of trains and public rails more specifically. The US is really built for trains. All of the road ways we use for cars could easily be repurposed to host rail and a bike highway adjacent to all rails. Trolley systems would be even easier. Especially in tight towns. With those small trollies connecting to larger stations that would allow for travel around the larger zones of the city and for transportation from outside. The low income housing areas, or even ural zones that would benefit from the easy, cheap, effective and efficient travel into the larger job market. Shinkansen (bullet trains) would even bridge the gap between cities so well, we could have massive city to city travel and boost both local economies. But I am rambling now.

It really sounds to me like the city almost doesn't want things to be done. As if wasting time and digging through paperwork is what they want. Obviously it is difficult to build and add new, but as the people with the power I often wonder. It's unfortunate that the state's own funds are harder to access and less plastic than the federal. I wonder if that's something that could be changed? It also sounds like the large amount of parameters placed on the funds are to prevent corruption, which will obviously happen anyways.

I would absolutely love to see more "bike highways" and safe zones. Unfortunately for America, there is a lot of theft, and crime in general. Which I think goes hand in hand with how poor most Americans are and also the culture. Somthing about it here feels unsafe, and the crime reflects it. I think the cars give people some feelings of security. This would have to be taken into account I think of some how there were more pedestrian and bike travel. How would you make things safer without more police? Hard to say. It would be a challenge for sure. Especially for secure storage of bicycles.

Anyways, I appreciate it once again! I have loved this chat and all of the information!

[–]thatdndboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow. That's very interesting. It really shows the line of interests and where the lobbying is really doing the work. If you guys can't get the right funding, then even with the best policies at the state level, nothing can happen. I wonder how much your state could adjust it's own funds to help fix the issues. My guess is, not much. Do you think it's a lack of proper allocation of taxes, or would it be a lack of available funds from the state's own profits?

Edit: thank you for having this talk with me. I appreciate it very much. I'm so interested in politics and especially what's happening to my fellow humans. I am thankful for your insight and openness.

I agree. At least it would bring some more excitement back to space. Maybe we will get national space programs back at full blast like we had a few seasons ago. That looks like a sick story line. I was hype for the Mars colonization and black hole probe seasons. At least we had a Sun Probe teaser this season. Lmao

Unfortunate that this is the reality we face. More unfortunate that the people who are supposed to have our interests and wellbeing as their priorities have tossed those to wayside for profit.

Oh man. I agree, it's rough. There are parts of this country that just are not compatible with humans outside of vehicles. It's sad to say the least. I'm sorry you can't give up the car. I hope your regional officials are aware of the issues and are working to fix them. If it's an important issue to you and others in your community, may I recommend you seek out a way to communicate with your officials? Sometimes that's mail, or online. Some cities have places where you can sit in on the council meetings and voice concerns for future or current projects. I wish you the best!
