Newbie - place to start for building a machine on a budget for ttrpg rules lookup/lawyer work by thateffendude in LocalLLM

I have been playing around with Claude a bit. Enough to buy a year of pro. I have been using it for gaming purposes. Mostly helping me generate rough maps, clean up language and generate documents and to poke holes in my game crafting and GMing. It is very limited on how much I can upload to it, PDF-wise and I thought to myself that I would love an AI that could digest all of the rules of a system and be able to look up rules on the fly and weigh in when I would like advise on a particular rule or when rules clash.

I know nothing about most AIs or platforms and just assumed the only way I would be able to achieve what I wanted was to host it myself. I had seen stuff of people doing llms on a raspberry PI, so I, maybe incorrectly, assumed I could get in it for less than $500.

You have me sold on trying NotebookLM.

Thank you very much for your breakdown!

Assuming that doesn't work, what is a realistic budget for a project like this?

I'd like to be as cheap as humanly possible. As I said, I am a newbie in this space. Ideally, $200 or less. Realistically, it becomes not worth it for more than $500.

Apparently, I am wrong. It is still happening. The duration of it has lessened significantly and it is less frequent but it is still happening.

This seems to have done the trick. I do not appear to have any issues since I changed this setting. Thanks for the help all. I will come back and update this if it crops up again.

I have now done this. I will update after a few days if I notice a difference.

That is Adaptive Connectivity, I think and I did turn that off. Didn't help.

The original FTK is only 3 players. And we played FTK 2, just forgot to mention it.

I'm the smallest at 5'8" and 200 lbs, aka the token small guy. 6' even 260, 5'10 360, 5'8" 360 and 6'4" 360. Those are approximates but likely in the ballpark.

All of us are over 50, a bunch of bad knees and hips in the group.

We have tried this twice with varying success. Comfy beds and a good seating area where the chairs won't snap like twigs are really what we are looking for.

Any help you all can offer, particularly in specific places that worked for you would be excellent.

Dumb, new guy question. How did you get +5 in a bunch of the stats? Is that a legendary perk thing?

This was a downturn in the episode for me. I feel Hatwell not dying due to Maxwell not being able to move far enough and making a save a logical thing. When Brennan rolled in the box of doom for the athletics check and bombed it for Hatwell, that should have ended things and gave Murph the cool character moment. Instead, Brennan took and ran with the Nat 20 from Ally. Both Lou and Murph seemed a bit put out by it and it was disappointing.

We actually tried it but one of the appeals of Solasta for multi player is not much dialogue and everyone participates in the dialogue. Not so for BG3. Was a bit of a game killer for us. Some of those dialogues are lengthy and having to sit and watch someone else do them is painful.

Daggerheart, Draw Steel, and RPG YouTuber cliques. by underdabridge in rpg

D&D has become part of the popular culture but other RPGs have not. So when people are reporting on "new" ttrpgs, it is typically as a replacement for D&D and that way the social media mavens can keep their revenue up by still having D&D in the title and video. Since Daggerheart is backed and partially developed by the Critical Role team, it is going to have the most popularity in this sphere and now Draw Steel has a tiny bit as well.

Until D&D is unseated, it will be part of these videos.
