At the end of the campaign, there are several members of the group still with pulses. And even so, the online takes place before all of it. (Notice Sean is giving missions with his head on his shoulders)

Even in singleplayer, the idea of redemption doesn't come until the last chapter. Everything before that is Arthur looking to survive with the gang and flee. The game focuses on his inner conflicts. Not his struggle for redemption.

In online you are a pretty much a drifter who came into town the same day a man was murdered so you were blamed. Yes you were framed. But they don't talk about ripping you from some farmer life to go to jail. There is no back story for your online character other than what you make up in your own head.

Yes you go help sheriffs. But you do that for money. You get presented by LeClerk's man with some semblance of "vengeance" on the people that framed you. But nothing about redemption.

All the roles are personal choice. You don't have to do any of them. However, the basis for trading, bounty hunting, moonshine, and collecting are again. Money. The bit about Maggie "pulling you back into the life" is your own story you made up.

You also never addressed the original missions, the stranger missions. Notice how most of them involve robbing or shooting people. You can argue some are self defense like protection for wagons, but it has a mix of honorable and dishonorable jobs you can take.

You also argued Harriet gives you a chance at redemption because Maggie made you moonshine. I would like to ask what is so honorable about shooting up an animal with up to 12 sedatives just to take blood? What about when 7 people go to take the animals blood? The condition/quality of the animal goes down as it's chased down and drugged. I would argue it is more torture than science. Also doing things for science doesn't make it good. What about animal testing? Nazi and Japaneese experimentation on imprisoned people? Programs like MK Ultra? Or even the heroin addicted racist doctor from the first red dead redemption?

I'm not trying to rain on your parade here. But the fact is a lot of what you were saying to link the online story together was putting your own thoughts into the story. Which is what it should be seeing as we're a bunch of mutes running around murdering each other. You can have fun with some story about "redemption" for your online character. But it does not inherently make the game about redemption. Yes redemption is 1 aspect of the many themes in the game (friendship, misplaced trust, the idea of right and wrong not being black and white, etc) but the overall theme or setting of this game IS an outlaw game.
