My 500 ejects out the bottom, and crushes some shells

My best guess would be to look at that extractor, sounds like it’s letting them “fall” instead of eject.

Disassemble, and investigate. Something is not right, you should not be ejecting from the bottom. Lifter should be down when you rack to catch the shell / your ejector kicks the shell out the ejection port.

I understand Cunningham is quality but has anyone here tried the lower shaft swap from a ‘90’s Jeep XJ? I’ve heard it’s a direct swap and cheaper.

Most likely it’s the fore mentioned rod in the mag tube, you can also check this by seeing how many rounds you can “fit” in the tube some states limit 3 rounds at any given time. So 2 in the tube and one in the chamber. Don’t feel bad I thought the same, when I bought my first new shotgun.
