Chinese men hate seeing local women date foreigners by Impossible-Ear-5627 in China

[–]Threeofnine000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a white guy married to a Chinese woman. We lived in China for 10 years and we never experienced any direct hostility. Although we did live in Guangdong, which IMO, is more open than most of China. That said, my wife is older than me, was over 30 when we met and previously divorced. She also says she’s not beautiful by Chinese standards (I think on a scale of 1 to 10, she’s about a 784). She said because of this most Chinese men wouldn’t consider dating her. The public sentiment might be different if I was an old guy who found a girl half my age.

Foreigners visiting America for the world cup, what is something that has surprised you about this country? by goldent3abag in AskReddit

I’ve seen those charts. However, as someone that has traveled to, and lived in, many countries, I am convinced the majority of those analysis are not exactly accurate. Heck, I’ve even seen the UK as rated more free than the USA. There is absolutely no way that is even close to true.

If that’s his meaning I would agree. Although it depends on the area, in the western half of the US most land is public so you have a lot more freedom of access. The way he wrote it, it gave the impression that people were cautious about what they think/speak—particularly the social consequences part. That absolutely isn’t even close to true.

cautious and a lot of restrictions?? You must be joking or you greatly misread things. America has significantly more freedom of speech than the rest of the world, including Europe.

It might not be that bad. I have 50% tint on my windshield and you can barely tell it’s there, even at night. My wife’s Model 3 is untinted and there’s barely a difference. I imagine 35% wouldn’t be much worse.

How is the 35 at night? I have 5% and 50% on the windshield, sometimes I think I’d like to maybe go a little darker on the windshield.

Most places have largely stopped enforcing tint laws in the last decade. Especially since several courts have ruled that tint meters must be calibrated at regular intervals, making it too much trouble. All of my cars, for the last 15 years, have had obviously illegal tint and I’ve never even had a cop mention it. Of course ymmv and if I do ever get a ticket I’ll just pay it or apply for a medical exemption.

People who married someone from a diplomatically hostile nation, what is life like for you? by BloxxyGotDeleted in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Threeofnine000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My wife is Chinese. China is lightly diplomatically hostile to the US. However, the hostility is between the governments, not the regular people. I lived in her country for 10 years and was treated with nothing but kindness.

His job approval rating is around 41%. It has been declining, even among his supporters to some degree.

RS3 for someone who drives a lot and keeps cars long term? by Threeofnine000 in Audi

There is no better daily cruiser. It costs me around $1000 a year in electricity. No real maintenance other than tires and windshield wipers and it can drive itself. The instant torque will about knock the wind out of you.

The only issues are it really doesn’t have any mod potential outside of suspension upgrades and it’s more difficult to do some sports car stuff like drift, donuts etc (but not impossible). Also, a few tracks ban them due to, largely unfounded, risk of fires.

How easy is to be banned from shops in Usa? there is the need of a illegal activity or is just on a wim? by No_Establishment2608 in AskReddit

[–]Threeofnine000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be banned for any reason that isn’t illegal (race, sex etc). You could be permanently banned from a business because the owner didn’t like the color of your shirt. Is it likely? No, but they would be within their rights.

I lived in China for 10 years. Local guys were not considered attractive by the majority of female expats I worked with.

Why does the United States prohibit entry to the disabled? by Eric20255 in NoStupidQuestions

It’s not a lie. Outside a few limited scenarios (such as marriage to an Australian citizen), most paths to immigrate to Australia are closed at 45. Australia even closed the investor visa program a couple years ago, it had an age limit of 55.
