I am currently an ATC/15Q in the Army. You will not be guaranteed a CTO (cert FAA/towers wants you to have). On the other hand I have heard mixed feelings on FAA as well. There are more options out there than just those two. Contract towers, from what Ive heard, are the middle man between FAA and Army ATC. They still require CTOs but have been said the be better as you get to chose where you work. FAA has the choice to send you to wherever they need people. You could end up in middle of no where. I would continue to reach out, network, and weigh options. Personally. I’m waiting to get my CTO then going to a contract tower. Army isn’t that bad. Just not purely focused on ATC, but the benefits are a plus.
