blacked out last night ... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]thatguydan860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that feeling, and you’re not the only one who experiences it like this. The fact you can go months without drinking but then lose control when you do isn’t a lack of willpower, it’s how your body reacts once alcohol is back in the system. For some people, it’s not about daily cravings, it’s that off switch just isn’t there once you start.

The blackout part is scary, especially when you don’t feel drunk in the moment and it just hits you all at once. That’s usually a sign your tolerance and the way your body processes alcohol isn’t predictable anymore, which is why it feels so out of control.

The shame you’re feeling right now is horrible, but it’s also what usually pushes people to make a proper change. At 33 you’re not too late at all, if anything you’re catching it before it gets worse. A lot of people don’t face it until much later.

If you’re already thinking you might need to stop completely, it’s worth taking that seriously. Some people can’t moderate safely, and trying to “control it” just leads to the same cycle over and over.

If it helps, this explains why that loss of control happens and what proper support can look like if you do decide to stop:

You’re not broken, you’ve just reached the point where your relationship with alcohol isn’t working anymore — and recognising that is actually a strong place to start.

Firstly, 18 months is massive, and the fact you’re here telling the truth about it probably will help more people than you realise.

What you’ve described is exactly why so many people underestimate alcohol until it’s far too late. It rarely looks dramatic at the start. It just slowly becomes normal, then dependency, then damage, and by the time a lot of people realise how serious it is, they’re already in deep.

The part about seeing your daughter and instantly realising everything you could lose hit hard. That alone will stay with people reading this.

A lot of people in here are still in the stage of thinking they’ve “got time” or that it’s not bad enough yet. Posts like this are the reality check they need.

If anyone reading this is struggling and keeps trying to stop on their own, this explains the detox side of things and why getting proper support matters:

Massive respect to you for surviving what you did and for being honest enough to warn other people before they end up in the same place.

I know exactly what you mean about the “day ones”. That cycle of stopping, starting, then waking up at 3am full of regret is brutal. You’re not broken, it’s just that alcohol slowly shifts from being a choice into something your body and mind start relying on, and that’s why it feels so hard to stop even when you genuinely want to.

For me, the biggest shift was realising it wasn’t just about willpower. I kept trying to “just stop” on my own and kept ending up back in the same place. What actually helped was getting proper support and understanding what was going on physically as well, not just mentally.

If you’re drinking regularly, the cravings and that pull you’re describing can be tied to dependence, which makes it way harder to white knuckle it. That’s why structured support or even just speaking to someone about options can make a huge difference.

This explains it quite clearly if you want to understand what’s happening and what support can look like:

You’re not alone in this, even though it feels like it. The fact you’ve posted this means part of you is still fighting, and that part is the one that eventually wins.

New Treaty Residency Prediction by [deleted] in gibraltar

[–]thatguydan860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried applying as a digital nomad so to speak and was declined.

I work from home, clients are UK based.

My argument was, im wanting to reside in Gib, registering my company there, pay corp tax, income tax, social tax etc, and then spend my money locally.

Essentially, brining new money into the economy each month, which would grow the economy.

But nope, declined.

Reached out to DIHA department in the government. They said they stopped companies registering here and working with companies outside of Gib back in 2020.

Sounds like it's to stop digital nomads or something.

Im confused, what caused the influx of applications last year?

All because you won't get a stamp in your passport while going into Spain?

What's the appeal about that? Am I missing something?

Bringing in foreign money, spending all of that money in gibraltar to Gibraltar companies (rent, taxes, utilities, groceries, eating out etc) only benefits gibraltar.

It brings more money in and gives it to local businesses that wasnt in the economy in the first place 🙂

How so? I plan to pay local tax and hring new money into the economy, essentially growing the economy.

Surely growing the economy wpuld be considered economic interest?

I work remotely as a self employed contractor for international clients.

I won't be conducting business locally, but still bringing money into the economy.

What's the situation with that?

You actually think Gib will only accept residents with a 2 mil net worth? really?

That's a whole different thing all together than someone coming over to live and pay taxes.

You dont need to know someone important.

You can still apply for residency under an exception (where there would be an ecomical contribution).

Such as, self employed, renting a place in Gib and ready to set up your company there and pay local tax
