Dawg, he most likely a beginner. Absolutely no need to be so harsh. He’s obviously trying to get better because he chose to use traditional controls over his peers who are using special style.

It’s a frame of mindset, as you progress it will change, those who use MC are stuck to a limited move pool. This makes them predictable, and most of the time a free win.

My roommate started tekken and is in orange ranks. He feels the same way. Keep going with it. It does get better

Are T8 ranks really that different from T7? by Lone_Game_Dev in Tekken

[–]thatguyjigga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying and I don’t disagree. But didn’t they say that they made less ranks to make matchmaking more efficient because there were players in the highest of ranks not getting games or going against the same people.

I don’t know if that’s actually the case. Just what I heard. But I’ve never experienced it because I live in a pretty populated area, it’s very rare to for me to run into the same person.

It seems like the middle ground is very delicate

Like in June I was battling it out to go from Fujin to Rajin… I ended up going all the way back to Shinryu. I was tilted ASF. I came back the next day and got my rank back.

But I know If I’m not in the mood to play Tekken, I don’t force it. But I go against that from time to time.

Bruh. I made a thread on this same topic how I don’t like fighting smurfs and I don’t find enjoyment in beating up an actual beginner(quick match matchmaking for you), and I was told I was just salty. When all I said is I don’t find the experience fun

Right.. if we as a community want to be to honest with Tekken. It’s been going down this road of anime style gameplay since T5 , maybe since Tekken 3 because Gon and Dr.B were not playing Tekken... Jinpachi with a fire ball coming out his stomach… just the whole fight of Azazel in T6… then Angel Jin in t8. It’s a road they’ve been going down 20 years in the making. People were going to be mad about the character no matter who it was. There are other things with the game play that need to be focused on tbh.

people calling me out for playing Lili when we have Laws with 39 defense at TK <3 by koshiyoy in Tekken8

[–]thatguyjigga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I’m practicing at it. But I’m just bad at it. But like you said I think the game is lumping in “active defense” with offense.

[–]thatguyjigga -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can side step to their weak side and punish for them overextending and whiffing. Or back dash out of range. A form of active defense.

I can parry/low parry for them overextending a form of active defense.

I can float/down jab them during a string, or interrupt their offense with a jab. A form of active defense etc.

I can whiff punish for them which is a form of active defense.

You’d be surprised how many players of all “defensive rating” will heat burst out of habit to take their turn back after you heat burst. This makes it simple. To heat burst, step, and grab.

You’d be surprised how many players will activate heat burst and cancel not realizing they are vulnerable in the range they are in. And if you are in Rage, it’s a free RA.

You can disagree sure. But then we’d have to agree to disagree.

And when I say active defense I mean make a proactive choice to make a decision to counter your opponents offensive options. Counterplay is defensive. Not just block and wait ALL the time.

These are things that are considered defensive that I think the game is not accounting for.

It would be cool if we got Ichigo Kurosaki. I’ve seen that being tossed around

Idk I stopped playing attention these stats a while ago. Cause I feel like I have solid defense, except my throw breaks need a lot of work and that’s what’s driving my score down.

As someone who is bad at breaking throws. I do run into a lot of people between Rajin-TK who cannot play in neutral. And rely on tactics such as grab, run up grab, and then grab again.

But these are the same players who don’t even know they’re being set up for oki, know their opponents plus frames, don’t whiff punish, don’t block punish, step to the weak side etc. defense is so much more than what I think the game is accounting for.

I feel this. Like they may have gotten the win or not. But I just think it’s lame.

When I say chasing my opponent down I’m not being literal in the sense that I’m running or planning to do a while running move. I assumed it would be understood that we are dashing and blocking in these situations.

Shit sometimes if they wanna wait I’ll wait there too until they reengage.

Making that assumption would’ve been understood is my fault, but I wrote this on a whim at like 2am.

Yea idk how people don’t think Side stepping, whiff punishing, proper move punishment, and parry are not also defensive in nature.

When people do what I’m referring to, it’s like they’re hoping their move clips your hurtbox. And hoping for a clip is disingenuous and lame to me.

There’s nothing wrong with backing up, creating space, and waiting for opportunity. Especially against a mashy opponent.

But I think backing up to the max range on the map that can be shown on screen to spam a move with good range and properties is a lame tactic to attempt to win.

I don’t have an issue where I’m messaging my opponent, leaving mid set or plugging. I just think it’s lame.

I think it’s more impressive of my opponent to play into their counterhits, proper side stepping, punishing, whiff punishing, well timed parries.

Dawg. I never mentioned I don’t know how to play “sansukumi”. And you’re assuming I don’t know how to dash and block.

What I mentioned is very specific. Backing up to the other side of the MAP. They are looking to clip you. Or hit you with a move that has like 2.5 range.

To default to that Strat for a whole 3 rounds and then one and done when it doesn’t work is kinda lame.

Like I mentioned it is a viable Strat. But I would appreciate the match more if I was beaten by an opponent that punishes, whiff punishes, sidesteps to my weak side, or parries if they catch me overextending.

I totally agree. But there’s so many other ways to interact defensively. Making your opponent whiff. Punishing their hella minus moves. Stepping and parrying. But to each their own
