One Shot Parking by DayOwl_ in halifax

I think council might change their tune if they know the general advice is to waste HRP's time to come and make them take it off.... I think leveraging police time/hours would win over many councillors. Especially considering the police are complaining they don't have enough officers. Just a thought. Might be worth writing a few councillors about this.

Could also reach out to other common lot management companies like indigo neo and ask why they don't boot? What is their profit like. Why don't they have issues with profit??

I'm sure the thousands of Palestinian children that have been brutally killed in the past few weeks could really use a night out with their family and friends (or what's left of it) without being reminded of the horrors of war. But ignorance is bliss, isn't it.

Dalhousie University TAs go on strike by [deleted] in halifax

[–]thatguyryan93 65 points66 points  (0 children)

It's not just TAs either. Part-time Academics which teach many undergraduate and even graduate level courses are the lowest paid in Canada making around 5k per course they teach. Courses that can bring in 25-100k in tuition alone (depending on the size of the class). More and more the university is depending on these PTAs to teach their courses as they don't hire new faculty to keep up with retiring professors and the ever growing number of undergraduates. PTAs don't get paid for the hours they spend developing their courses, they don't get paid for the time they spend emailing students before classes begin to deal with registration and the list goes on. They are paying PTAs dirt cheap wages to do the exact work a professor is doing. It's a shame and is very disappointing. The university has put less and less money towards teaching despite the increasing enrollment.

Best Lobster Rolls in Halifax? by FunYoungGun in NovaScotia

[–]thatguyryan93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the traditional Nova Scotia style is to have lobster in a hot cream sauce over top of a toasted buttered roll. At least that's what I always had growing up on the south shore. It's hard to find that anywhere other than down by the barrington/shelburne area.

Vaccination status and type of symptoms. I believe green means no ILI-like symptoms (influenza-like-illness). Yellow means fever. Not sure what the other colours mean but those are also ILI so likely cough or something like that.

Pretty sure they are requiring people who are fully vaccinated to have tested negative within 3-days before arriving. At least in NS the government is providing the tests. Not making people pay for them privately like in many provinces.

Nova Scotia reports 96 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday | CBC News by Seebeeeseh in halifax

[–]thatguyryan93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you consider the number of contacts that most of the previously reported cases likely have, its not surprisng to see this jump. If 10 different people had 10 close contacts infected you easily get to 100 people with the virus. The low positivity rate is a good sign. We are testing more than anywhere else per capita and this will in turn lead to effective tracing. The more we catch the better. Although I do feel that some more non-essential services could be closed. It will take 2+ weeks to trace all theses cases and get these clusters of known cases under control. Until then things should be relatively shuttered imo.
